TM GLOBAL EXPANDS DATA CENTRES IN CYBERJAYA AND JOHOR TO STRENGTHEN NATION’S DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION
KUALA LUMPUR, 11 NOVEMBER 2024 – TM Global, TM’s wholesale business arm, will expand its Klang Valley Data Centre (KVDC) in Cyberjaya and Iskandar Puteri Data Centre (IPDC) in Johor, addressing the growing demand for domestic and international data hosting services.
This is the next phase in TM’s strategic roadmap to grow its infrastructure ecosystem and position Malaysia as a preferred digital hub in Southeast Asia, aligning with its aspiration to become a Digital Powerhouse by 2030. These expansions and TM’s partnership with Nxera to develop a new, hyperconnected, AI-ready data centre, lays the foundation for digital services such as cloud, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things.
Scheduled for commercial operations in 2025, the second phase of both KVDC and IPDC will deliver a combined IT load of about 20MW. The expansion will meet Uptime Institute’s Tier-III standards, and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver rating for long-term sustainability, a globally recognised green building certification.
Khairul Liza Ibrahim, TM Global’s Executive Vice President, said, “KVDC and IPDC are integral infrastructures in Malaysia’s digital ecosystem, serving as international gateways and interconnected points to support 5G networks. This second phase of our data centre expansion will feature sustainable designs, boosting our capacity to support hyperscalers, OTT players, cloud and next generation AI providers, as well as enterprises.”
TM Global’s data centres are complemented by seven regional Edge Facilities located throughout the country. These support high-performance computing and co-location services to bring content closer to end-users with minimal latency.
“We have further enhanced our data hosting services with a recent acquisition of the Facilities-based Operator license in Singapore, allowing us to provide seamless, secure data centre-to-data centre connectivity through our extensive domestic fibre optics network and international submarine cable systems. This enables us to meet the growing connectivity demands across the region, linking data centres from Thailand to Malaysia, Singapore, and Batam in Indonesia,” Khairul Liza emphasised.

TM Future Skills Programme continues with a project based learning e-showcase event
Two (2) schools participated in E-Showcase PBL-TM Future Skills 2020, the highlight of a 3-month online learning programme for teachers and students of the schools Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) continues its efforts to equip the younger generation with Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0)-centric knowledge through initiatives under its TM Future Skills programme. Most recently, students from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Jalan Davidson, Kuala Lumpur and SJKC Tsun Jin, Kuala Lumpur demonstrated their talents in 3D programming and printing skills in a two (2)-days online event held in collaboration with Bangsar / Pudu District Education Office (PPDBP). The event, titled E-Showcase Project Based Learning (PBL)-TM Future Skills 2020, saw the participation of 60 teachers and students from both schools. The students showcased their 3D innovation projects and at the same time, shared and displayed their knowledge and skills in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects. Izlyn Ramli, Vice President, Group Brand and Communication, TM, said: “We are delighted with the schools’ acceptance and active participation in the TM Future Skills Programme. Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes under the education pillar are always aimed at supporting the nation’s education system towards preparing not only the students, but also the teachers and society at large, with IR4.0 skills. We hope this programme will help to enhance the students' future skills and increase their interest in STEM subjects. This befits our role as a responsible nation builder where we will continue to serve and enable Digital Malaysia through innovative and inclusive digital solutions.” Teah Lay Theng, Headmistress of SJKC Jalan Davidson, said: “The PBL approach was chosen for the programme as it can bring out the most from the students in terms of innovation and creativity. The use of digital equipment is also able to improve the digital skills and competencies of our students in producing the innovations.” Meanwhile, Ng Mooi Hong, Headmistress of SJKC Tsun Jin, said: “In the current pandemic environment, teachers need to be creative in imparting knowledge and running the programmes that can develop the potential of our students. With this programme, we hope to inoculate the interest, highlight the potentials and empower the students with STEM subjects.” The E-Showcase PBL-TM Future Skills 2020 was the highlight of three (3) months long online learning programme for teachers and students of the two (2) schools. Throughout the programme, the teachers and students from both schools learned about digital technology in TM 3Ducation – the 3D printing module to be implemented in their PBL. Due to the ongoing pandemic Covid-19, TM’s strategic partner for TM Future Skills, Creative Minds, conducted the training sessions for all the teachers and students, including parents, through an online platform. Not being in class physically following the closure of schools nationwide has also not deterred these young innovators. They persevered in conducting research and continued to experiment and collaborated with each other virtually for the past 3 months. At the same time, School Improvement Specialist Coach (SISC+) from PPDBP closely supervised the activities and monitored the progress of the participants. Streamed live via YouTube, the E-Showcase garnered more than 6,000 viewers throughout the 2-day event and the channel has cumulated more than 7,800 views to date. The panel of judges for the E-Showcase consisted of SISC+ from PPDBP and led by Izad Ismail, Head of Corporate Responsibility, TM. TM Future Skills programme is an initiative that aims to empower students by equipping them and teachers with IR4.0-centric kits and knowledge, such as the TM 3Ducation – 3D printing module and the TM Nano Maker, a real-time data logging tool for STEM. This is to prepare them to be part of a digital-ready community and future-proof workforce which has always been one of the pillars under TM’s Digital Malaysia aspiration. As a key enabler of this, TM has always been an avid supporter of innovation and technology in Education. TM Announces Upcoming Change In MD / Group CEO
Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), is pleased to announce a change in its executive leadership effective 1 August 2023. The change sees Amar Huzaimi Md Deris as the new Managing Director / Group CEO of TM, succeeding Datuk Imri Mokhtar, who completes his 3-year term on 31 July 2023. Currently heading TM's domestic and global wholesale business, Amar is another example of TM's home-grown talent, after Datuk Imri. Beginning his career with TM after graduating in 1998, Amar’s roles have ranged from financial control, internal audit, corporate and regulatory affairs, Group CEO’s office, culminating in his current P&L position at TM Global. His strategic vision, combined with operational experience and grasp of global leading technologies, ideally positions him to steer TM's evolution from a Telco to a TechCo. His achievements have not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by his recognition as one of CPA Australia's 40 young business leaders (2012) and by Capacity Media's 'Power 100' list in wholesale carrier community (2019, 2023). These accolades further attest to his leadership capabilities and the promising future he holds at the helm of TM. Speaking about his upcoming role, Amar said, "Datuk Imri has set the right path for TM, with the strengthened foundation from the turnaround and pursuit of new growth areas – charting the shift from a Telco to a TechCo. U MOBILE TO LEVERAGE TM’S NATIONWIDE FIBRE NETWORK IN LATEST PARTNERSHIP; EXPEDITING ITS NEXT GEN 5G DEPLOYMENT
• U Mobile has appointed TM to provide leased fibre connectivity backhaul for its Next Gen 5G rollout nationwide • The appointment enables U Mobile to accelerate deployment by leveraging TM’s extensive fibre network and comprehensive 5G Mobile Backhaul Service KUALA LUMPUR, 26 May 2025 – U Mobile, Malaysia’s Next Gen 5G network provider, has announced the appointment of TM, the enabler of a Digital Malaysia, as its key fibre backhaul partner to accelerate the deployment of its 5G network nationwide. The partnership agreement, valued at RM2.4billion over 10 years was formalised today at a signing ceremony held at Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara, witnessed by YB Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications. Under this partnership, TM will provide U Mobile a comprehensive suite of backhaul infrastructure services, including fibre leased line access to U Mobile’s 5G Radio Access Network (RAN), data centre and TM Edge Facility leasing for Points of Interconnect (POIs), as well as trunk leased line for inter-regional connectivity. With TM’s extensive nationwide fibre footprint—spanning over 740,000 km and representing the widest fibre backhaul coverage in Malaysia—U Mobile is poised to expedite the rollout of its Next Gen 5G network across the country.
