TM GLOBAL EXPANDS DATA CENTRES IN CYBERJAYA AND JOHOR TO STRENGTHEN NATION’S DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION
KUALA LUMPUR, 11 NOVEMBER 2024 – TM Global, TM’s wholesale business arm, will expand its Klang Valley Data Centre (KVDC) in Cyberjaya and Iskandar Puteri Data Centre (IPDC) in Johor, addressing the growing demand for domestic and international data hosting services.
This is the next phase in TM’s strategic roadmap to grow its infrastructure ecosystem and position Malaysia as a preferred digital hub in Southeast Asia, aligning with its aspiration to become a Digital Powerhouse by 2030. These expansions and TM’s partnership with Nxera to develop a new, hyperconnected, AI-ready data centre, lays the foundation for digital services such as cloud, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things.
Scheduled for commercial operations in 2025, the second phase of both KVDC and IPDC will deliver a combined IT load of about 20MW. The expansion will meet Uptime Institute’s Tier-III standards, and the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver rating for long-term sustainability, a globally recognised green building certification.
Khairul Liza Ibrahim, TM Global’s Executive Vice President, said, “KVDC and IPDC are integral infrastructures in Malaysia’s digital ecosystem, serving as international gateways and interconnected points to support 5G networks. This second phase of our data centre expansion will feature sustainable designs, boosting our capacity to support hyperscalers, OTT players, cloud and next generation AI providers, as well as enterprises.”
TM Global’s data centres are complemented by seven regional Edge Facilities located throughout the country. These support high-performance computing and co-location services to bring content closer to end-users with minimal latency.
“We have further enhanced our data hosting services with a recent acquisition of the Facilities-based Operator license in Singapore, allowing us to provide seamless, secure data centre-to-data centre connectivity through our extensive domestic fibre optics network and international submarine cable systems. This enables us to meet the growing connectivity demands across the region, linking data centres from Thailand to Malaysia, Singapore, and Batam in Indonesia,” Khairul Liza emphasised.

TM leverages Maxis’ Infra to Drive Enhanced Mobile Connectivity Nationwide
To strengthen the nation’s digital ecosystem through industry collaboration, TM will access Maxis’ 4G Multi Operator Core Network (MOCN), as well as 4G and 2G Domestic Roaming Services to enhance mobile connectivity nationwide. MOCN is a radio access network (RAN) sharing mechanism that allows different core networks to share the same RAN. Through this, TM will extend its 4G coverage across the country by leveraging Maxis’ RAN infrastructure and improve Unifi Mobile's population coverage to above 95%. Maxis will provide approximately 6,800 sites for 4G MOCN and domestic roaming (DR) services, and 10,000 sites for 2G DR, greatly benefiting all subscribers in rural and urban areas nationwide. In a ceremony today at TM HQ in Cyberjaya, Maxis was represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Goh Seow Eng, while Datuk Imri Mokhtar, Group Chief Executive Officer represented TM. Through this strategic partnership, TM and Maxis demonstrate a shared commitment to driving innovation, improving customer experiences, and contributing to the advancement of Malaysia's digital landscape. “This is a significant milestone for Maxis which represents our capabilities and track record in providing high quality mobile networks. We look forward to progressing ahead with TM on this initiative. TM ELEVATES ITS GLOBAL STANDING, ATTAINS OPEN API DIAMOND CERTIFICATION FROM TM FORUM
KUALA LUMPUR, 18 June 2024 – TM achieves TM Forum Open API Diamond Conformance Certification with 60 certified APIs, surpassing industry giants. This milestone underscores the company's commitment to industry standards and innovation. TM Forum Open API enables seamless connectivity, interoperability and portability across complex ecosystem services. This “API-first” approach fosters collaboration and simplifies integration for developers. With over 770,000 downloads by over 2,700 companies worldwide, TM Forum’s Open APIs are a game changer for the industry. By achieving this certification, TM actively contributes to this global shift. While at the TM Forum: Ignite conference in Copenhagen, Ivan Chong, TM’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) commented, “This certification aligns with our aspiration of becoming a Digital Powerhouse by 2030. We have established a reusable API framework, streamlined high-volume custom APIs and consolidated siloed API gateways into a single cohesive gateway, strengthening our platform play approach. This boosted our system response time by 34%, exemplifying a truly ‘plug and play’ technology capability.” “The standardised Open APIs, tested in real-world deployment, enable faster time to market with 100% reusable and secure APIs from a curated catalogue. For example, by exposing API capabilities such as Digital Solutions to third-party partners, we can accelerate the development of new products and services for Smart Cities, Smart Education and Smart Healthcare. This fosters the creation of more innovative solutions and new revenue streams while adhering to global industry standards,” added Ivan. TM's certification journey started with a Bronze in September 2023 with three APIs and quickly progressed to Diamond with 54 certified APIs in just seven months. Now at 60 certified APIs, TM demonstrates its dedication to agility, innovation, and collaboration. By joining 11 of the world's largest service providers including Vodafone, China Mobile and Telefónica, who have adopted TM Forum's suite of Open APIs for digital service management, TM solidifies its global recognition among industry leaders.
TM’s Edge Facilities Win W. Media’s Asia Pacific Cloud And Datacenter Award For The Southeast Asian Region
Kuala Lumpur, 5 December 2023 – TM Global, the wholesale domestic and international business arm of TM, secured a prestigious accolade at this year's W.Media Asia Pacific Cloud & Datacenter Awards, for its Edge Facilities project aptly titled 'Delivering the Edge'. Effectively meeting the global demand for decentralised data hosting via co-location, this achievement solidifies TM Global's commitment to enhance the country’s digital ecosystem and position Malaysia as a trusted digital hub for the Southeast Asian region. Functioning as a regional data hosting facility, the project involves transforming existing TM exchanges into Edge Facilities across seven states, including Seberang Jaya (Penang), Tasek Ipoh (Perak), Seremban (Negeri Sembilan), Kuantan (Pahang), Kuala Terengganu (Terengganu), Kota Kinabalu (Sabah) and Kuching (Sarawak). Strategically positioned close to the edge of TM’s network, TM’s Edge Facilities significantly reduce the distance between the content hosting location and end-users. This closeness supercharges the velocity of data transmission with ultra-low latency, leading to an enhanced digital experience for all users.
