Unifi, a leader in converged home, mobile and lifestyle services via its digital content arm, Unifi TV, today announced three new premium channels via partnerships with leading content providers – beIN Asia Pacific; Moonbug Entertainment, a subsidiary of Candle Media; and Korea’s KC Global Media.

 

Starting February 2023, viewers will be able to enjoy these popular channels via their Unifi TV subscriptions: beIN SPORTS 2 – featuring top-tier European football, international tennis competitions and most recently, full Formula 1 coverage; Moonbug Kids – designed for families with pre-school children; and ONE – for fans of the latest Korean drama and entertainment.

 

Two of the three new channels, Moonbug Kids and ONE will also be available for free preview throughout the whole of February for both existing and new Unifi TV subscribers.

 

This brings Unifi TV’s channel offerings to a whopping 71 premium channels, along with 17 app partners including Disney+ Hotstar, Viu, WeTV and Lionsgate Play – the largest selection of streaming apps over a single platform.

“At the end of 2022, Digital Market Insights projected that Malaysia’s Home Entertainment revenue was expected to reach an annual growth rate (CAGR 2022-2027) of 8.36%, with a projected market volume of US$48.57 million and 1.1 million active users by 2027.

 

“With these prospects in mind, we are strengthening our partnerships with leading global content providers to offer an inclusive selection of digital entertainment solutions – bringing Unifi’s ‘all-in-one’ value proposition to all audiences,” he added.  

 

beIN SPORTS 2 will join the line-up of three existing beIN SPORTS channels as well as the beIN SPORTS CONNECT app already available on Unifi TV, offering the widest live sports coverage from beIN SPORTS in Malaysia. In addition to the Formula 1 broadcast rights which will be extended to Unifi TV viewers, the channel will also include the Australian Open, ATP and the upcoming Roland-Garros.

Putting families in the forefront, Moonbug Kids on Unifi TV will feature all of Moonbug’s IPs including CoComelon, Blippi, Gecko’s Garage, Morphle, Arpo, Little Baby Bum and recent acquisitions Little Angel and Oddbods – offering wholesome and quality entertainment for preschool and early-years viewers.

 

Unifi TV is also the first digital content platform in Malaysia to offer selected Moonbug Kids programmes on demand that are localised in Bahasa Melayu and Mandarin – bringing these edutainment programmes to more of Malaysia’s multi-lingual audiences.

Leading K-entertainment channel, ONE, on the other hand, will bring the best of Korean entertainment to Malaysia. The channel will feature drama series Kokdu: Season of Deity within 24 hours of release in Korea and a line-up of romantic specials in February such as Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo and Backstreet Rookie. Fans of travel variety shows will also be treated to Dopojarak: Story of Homme the K-Wanderer, featuring personalities from K-pop, K-drama, fashion and sports.

TM announces another steady full year performance (FY2021) with EBIT up 6.6% at RM1.71 billion; revenue up 6.4% at RM11.53 billion; declares 6 sen per share dividend

As a result of jump in revenue and continuous cost optimisation initiatives, Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT) increased 6.6% to RM1.71 billion from RM1.60 billion in 2020 despite one-off provisions, impairments and accelerated depreciation ​Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM or the Group) delivered yet another healthy set of financial results for the Full Year 2021 ended 31 December 2021 as compared to the same period last year (YoY), despite protracted impact from the ongoing pandemic on the economic and business front. Fueled by strong growth in unifi revenue and fixed broadband subscribers, as well as sharp growth in the TM Wholesale business which registered increasing data demands from hyperscalers, and international and domestic service providers, TM recorded a 6.4% rise in revenue to clock in at RM11.53 billion from RM10.84 billion in 2020. This marked revenue improvement as well as the Group’s continuous cost optimisation initiatives led to the increase in Earnings Before Interest and Tax (EBIT), up 6.6% YoY to RM1.71 billion, from RM1.60 billion last year. Profit After Tax and Non-Controlling Interests (PATAMI) at RM895.2 million dipped 11.9% contributed by higher taxation including provision for Cukai Makmur, lesser interest income and forex losses, as well as impairment of TM’s mobile assets as the Group prepares itself for 5G. Based on its steady financial position and strong Free Cash Flow generation, the Board of Directors proposed the final interim dividend at 6 sen per share, resulting in a total dividend of 13 sen per share for 2021, in line with the Group’s growth investment strategy. CAPEX for the year was reported at RM1.70 billion, or 14.7% of revenue, reflecting TM’s commitment to reinvest in business expansion, new growth areas and provide great experience and services for its growing base of customers. Free Cash Flow at RM2.19 billion rose 9.5% from RM2.00 billion, ensuring steady growth ahead of a demanding future. unifi: Record-breaking revenue, total subscribers It was a landmark year for unifi, contributing to the Group’s strong performance. Overall unifi revenue grew by 10.3% driven by increased fixed broadband subscribers, with 2.78 million cumulative registered subscribers - the highest number of unifi and fixed broadband customers registered, as well as highest number of ports installed. In addition to unifi’s drive to reduce broadband downtime to the absolute minimum for its customers, the business introduced five #unificares initiatives to refine its end-to-end customer experience, with the highlight being unifi’s 24-hour service restoration guarantee, the first of its kind in the Malaysian telecommunications industry. In its effort to support SME recovery and growth, unifi has offered more than 377,000 local SMEs special packages with complete digital ecosystem to help them to grow their business and stay competitive. unifi will continue to maintain its leadership in convergence of broadband, content, mobile and solutions for both home and SMEs customers. With online connectivity playing a central role to enable Digital Malaysia, unifi bridges the connectivity gap by serving customers with innovative and high-quality products and services. TM Wholesale (TMW): Realising 5G and Malaysia’s digital hub aspiration TM continues to drive wholesale business for both domestic and international segments via TM Wholesale (TMW). With a strong performance last year, TMW’s posted revenue grew by 14.7% due to solid partnership expansion with domestic and international customers. Domestically, as the preferred fibre service provider, TMW will continue to pursue 4G and 5G fibre infrastructure deployment as well as promoting collaboration with domestic service providers, in line with the Government’s JENDELA initiative. The 5G fibre leasing services (worth RM2 billion over 10 years) for Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB)’s 5G infrastructure needs, is a testament of TM’s commitment to infrastructure sharing in enabling excellent wireless solutions and services. TMW also recorded the highest active ports subscription for wholesale High-Speed Broadband (HSBB) access with more than 550,000 cumulative ports for Malaysian fibre broadband providers. On the international front, TMW continues with its aspiration to become a digital hub for the ASEAN region through strategic collaborations with hyperscalers and global service providers. The year saw a solid achievement with 190 new deals from hyperscalers and global service providers for various wholesale International Data offerings. This translated into the highest annual revenue contribution from major hyperscalers worldwide, a milestone year in building a regional hub position for Malaysia. TM ONE: Custom solutions and digital adoption amid a challenging landscape TM ONE is expected to remain competitive amidst the challenging economic and business environment. This is driven by its strong value proposition of offering the end-to-end managed services and digital solutions, backed by robust digital connectivity and infrastructure. As the only home-based Cloud Service Provider (CSP) with data sovereignty assurance, TM ONE will continue enhancing its Cloud service as a complete digital solution by embedding analytics, smart services/IoT and cybersecurity to cater for the key industry verticals. Enterprises and public sector services are on an accelerated path to digitally transform, leveraging on cloud architecture and smart services as a foundational pillar to unlock innovation opportunities, stay resilient and maintain a competitive edge, all in line with Malaysia’s MyDIGITAL aspirations. In becoming a trusted cloud partner, TM ONE focused its efforts in boosting proficiencies and competencies of its solution consultants, technology experts as well as international certifications. For 2021, TM has shown positive results, driven by the New TM Transformation Programme which has delivered overall growth in TM’s revenue and EBIT. TM extends free connectivity to more than 1,000 community centres nationwide

​FREE WiFi for close to 60 PPRs and over 1,000 community internet centres nationwide in collaboration with MCMC to provide internet access and facilitate Home-based Teaching and Learning (PdPR). Provides connectivity and devices to students from lower-income families (B40) under Tabung CERDIK in collaboration with Yayasan Hasanah. DidikTV KPM on unifi TV channel 107 available from 7am to midnight daily – an effort by Ministry of Education (MOE) to increase access to quality education for students nationwide. Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), as the national connectivity and digital infrastructure provider, continues to extend Internet connectivity to more Malaysians, particularly the B40 group. The Company is providing FREE WiFi access at close to 60 People’s Housing Projects (Projek Perumahan Rakyat – PPR) and more than 1,000 community internet centres nationwide.  Students at 60 PPRs to benefit from FREE WiFi TM has been providing free WiFi access at 60 selected PPRs since January running until 30 April 2021, especially to assist SPM and STPM candidates. This latest initiative, in collaboration with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), is to facilitate Home-based Teaching and Learning (Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran di Rumah – PdPR) of students at the PPRs. FREE connectivity at more than 1000 Community Internet Centres TM is also enabling more local communities as well as students especially in sub-urban and rural areas to enjoy free broadband connection and utilise the facilities safely for their online learning at 563 WiFi Komuniti (WK), 437 community internet centres (Pusat Internet Komuniti – PIK), and 37 Pusat Internet Desa (PID); also in collaboration with MCMC. Providing support to the Tabung CERDIK initiative In addition, TM is also collaborating with Yayasan Hasanah to support the Tabung CERDIK initiative which was announced by the Government during the tabling of Budget 2021. The initiative will see government-linked investment companies (GLICs) and government-linked companies (GLCs) contribute RM150 million to provide laptops to 150,000 students in 500 schools, as a pilot project and is aimed at enabling PdPR. TM will be contributing connectivity and devices with an estimated value of over RM20 million. TM will contribute approximately 300 laptops worth RM500,000 while through unifi Mobile, TM will offer participating GLICs/GLCs the industry CERDIK mobile package which will be bundled with their device contributions. The Company will also upgrade broadband connectivity for 325 schools identified by the Ministry of Education (MoE) under the initiative as well as the nearby 156 Pusat Internet Centres and 17 PPRs. DidikTV KPM on unifi TV channel 107 The MOE has recently announced that its new terrestrial dedicated TV channel, known as DidikTV KPM, will start its broadcast on Wednesday, 17 February 2021. TM also facilitates PdPR amongst students by hosting the daily broadcasts of DidikTV KPM on unifi TV from 7am until midnight on unifi TV channel 107. DidikTV KPM will broadcast specially designed content based on MOE’s curriculum and co-curriculum, aside from news on education, edutainment programmes, student-generated content as well as relevant international programmes.  Imri Mokhtar, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM said: “Connectivity is crucial at this time as more Malaysians are at home; especially with most students having to learn remotely via PdPR. We hope that with the availability of free connectivity at these 60 PPRs and more than 1000 community internet centres, local communities especially students from the B40 families can attend classes and utilise online learning tools so that they won’t fall behind in their studies. They will be able to utilise unlimited data for learning applications and online classroom sessions, especially the candidates of the upcoming Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) preparing for the examinations. Most importantly, they can stay safe and stay productive at home during the Movement Control Order (MCO).” “We reiterate our support of the various Government and MCMC initiatives to address the digital gap especially among the low income groups, such as Tabung CERDIK. Apart from devices, students are in dire need of mobile connectivity that comes with unlimited data and affordable monthly subscription, which does not require frequent add ons or top-up when their quota has been utilised. The special unifi Mobile #BEBAS data package for SPM/STPM 2021 candidates and students of higher learning institutions, as well as the additional 1GB LTE daily data allowance, which has been in place throughout the MCO are to help Malaysians at this challenging time. We will continue to innovate our offerings to deliver seamless connectivity and an enhanced service experience to more Malaysians nationwide, in line with the Jalinan Digital Negara (JENDELA) action plan. As the enabler of Digital Malaysia, we remain committed to serve a more digital society, business and government,” added Imri. This complimentary data is available to all unifi Mobile postpaid as well as #BEBAS prepaid customers, on top of their existing monthly data allocation based on their subscription plan. Special unifi Mobile #BEBAS data package for SPM/STPM 2021 candidates and students of higher learning institutions TM through unifi Mobile #BEBAS prepaid, is also offering a special data package for SPM and STPM candidates to assist in their studies. This package has also been extended to students of higher learning institutions under 22 years of age, following the announcement by the Prime Minister under the “Perlindungan Ekonomi & Rakyat Malaysia” (PERMAI) assistance package on 18 January 2021. The special package offers a 15GB LTE pass at the price of RM20 only, with a 30-day validity period, and is available until 30 April 2021.  Meanwhile, unifi customers continue to enjoy unlimited internet and data on our unlimited home and mobile plans. FREE access is also made to a range of information-related apps and services to ensure Malaysians stay informed and stay updated on the latest credible news on COVID-19.
