68 excellent YTM scholars honoured at ’Majlis Anugerah Kecemerlangan Akademik’
Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) via its foundation Yayasan Telekom Malaysia (YTM) recently recognised 68 outstanding graduates under its scholarship programme who have completed their studies at various levels from local as well as overseas universities at ’Majlis Anugerah Kecemerlangan Akademik 2018’.
16 of the graduates completed their studies with flying colours when they achieved first class honours in their respective courses. Meanwhile, TM’s university, Multimedia University (MMU), produced 44 graduates from the overall total, of which 12 graduated with first class honours.
The awards were presented by Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Sulaiman Mahbob, Chairman of TM who is also the Chairman of YTM and Dato’ Sri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly, Managing Director / Group Chief Executive Officer, TM in a ceremony held at TM Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur. Also present at the ceremony were Nor Suhaimi Sulong, Acting Chief Human Capital Officer, TM, Abdul Hamid Hashim, Director of YTM and YTM Board of Trustees.
"I wish to congratulate the recipients for their outstanding achievement. YTM is indeed proud to be an education accelerator and career development provider for our graduates. I hope that these YTM scholars will continue to excel in their career and contribute effectively to TM in facing the challenges of the digital era,” said Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Sulaiman.
“I’m also proud to see that most of the first class graduates recognised today are from our own university, MMU. As the trusted partner in key nation-building initiatives including education, we at TM Group remain committed to our role as the country’s key enabler in the delivery of innovative digital services and solutions for the education sector towards building a knowledge-based workforce for the country. In the imminent fourth industrial revolution or aptly known as the Industry 4.0 today, there is even greater need to produce not only competent talents in ICT, Multimedia and digital technologies, but also those in related disciplines who are able to embrace these technologies, in order to form a viable innovative ecosystem for the nation. Spearheading TM’s education cluster in the past 20 years, MMU plays a vital role in meeting this need by providing quality industry-relevant education and training, whilst ensuring a steady pipeline of highly capable talents with an entrepreneurial mindset to equip the nation,” he added.
MMU is always ready to prepare its graduates in fulfilling current and future industry needs. With its updated curriculum and dynamic learning environment, the university emphasises on a well-rounded education system in producing high quality of graduates.
TM through YTM has been supporting the graduates from foundation studies up to their first bachelor degree. Recipients of YTM scholarships will not only receive financial aid throughout their studies, but will be attending self-development programmes to enter the career world. Besides education, YTM also embarks on sustainable efforts to preserve our local heritage and culture.

TM supports affected small businesses and communities through “Inisiatif Tolong Menolong”
Reaching out to more than 140 SME businesses and 14,000 families nationwide as part of the ongoing Malaysia Prihatin movement. Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) stays committed to its efforts in lending support and aid to affected Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) businesses and communities during this challenging period of COVID-19 pandemic. In view of the immense impact of this unprecedented period, Yayasan TM (YTM), TM's social impact-based foundation and also its Corporate Responsibility arm, embarked on a food bank programme called "Inisiatif Tolong Menolong", as part of the ongoing "Malaysia Prihatin" movement. The two (2) months programme is aimed at supporting local SME businesses such as grocery stores, sundry shops and restaurants as well as community groups in need including B40 families and the homeless, who are affected by the pandemic and enforcement of Movement Control Order (MCO). For this initiative, YTM works with TM's state offices nationwide to identify the local SMEs and provide the beneficiaries with basic necessities to alleviate their burden during this challenging time. Izlyn Ramli, Director of YTM shared: "We understand that the MCO is necessary to keep Malaysians safe during this pandemic, but it brought its own challenges to our livelihood. This is where YTM and TM Group continue to lend our helping hand wherever possible, embracing the spirit of "Malaysia Prihatin" and #kitajagakita. Apart from other ongoing initiatives to help the nation bounce back, we have embarked on this nationwide "Inisiatif Tolong Menolong" that adopts a two-pronged approach – providing basic necessities to those in need by purchasing the items from the local SME businesses in the vicinity. This will help the beneficiaries while at the same time assisting in the survival of the affected local SMEs. We hope this humble assistance can make life and business easier for them, and they have a chance to rebuild their lives together." "We are also very grateful for the great support and cooperation from the TM state offices and our various stakeholders on the ground who have worked tirelessly to make this initiative a success," Izlyn concluded. The initiative, kicked off on 20 August 2021 nationwide, is set to benefit more than 140 SME businesses, which were selected as collection points for the identified 14,000 families to get their basic food supplies in their respective areas. This programme is also part of the collective humanitarian efforts of the GLC/GLIC Disaster Response Network (GDRN), for which YTM is co-chair together with Khazanah Nasional Berhad's Yayasan Hasanah, under Ministry of Finance (MOF)-GDRN PERMAI Relief Fund 2021; a matching grant announced under Initiative 6 of Pakej Bantuan Perlindungan Ekonomi & Rakyat Malaysia (PERMAI) to provide immediate relief to those adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disaster. Earlier this year, TM had disbursed RM1.5 million of the TM's MOF-GDRN PERMAI Relief Fund 2021 via 17 NGOs nationwide and benefited more than 10,000 families from various backgrounds. Also under this fund, working together with Persatuan OKU Sentral and GDRN partners, TM has recently contributed a month's supply of food for front-liners and volunteers working at a Drive-Through Vaccine Center (PPV) specifically for the special needs community, including their guardians and senior citizens in Johor Bahru. To date, the TM Group including YTM has extended close to RM20 million through various initiatives to ease the lives of affected communities, and in continuous support of Malaysia's nation-building and community welfare agenda in these challenging times. TM Melaka contributes pendarfluor lamps to those in need in Melaka
In line with its vision of “Making Life and Business Easier, For A Better Malaysia”, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) through TM Melaka today lit up residences of those in need particularly in Durian Tunggal area with its contribution of pendarfluor lamps. A total of 1,000 pendarfluor lamps were handed over to deserving families in Kampung Gangsa, Durian Tunggal by YB Mohd Sofi Wahab, Exco of Public Works, Transport & Public Utilities, who is also the Durian Tunggal Assemblyman. Also present at the handover ceremony was Meor Shahril Anuar Ahmad Rathuan, State General Manager, TM Melaka. The pendarfluor lamps were gathered from an upgrading exercise of the lighting system at Menara TM Melaka building which saw the replacement of pendarfluor lamps to LED lights towards a more efficient energy consumption. From the upgrading exercise, TM Melaka managed to gather a total of 3,000 pendarfluor lamps to be contributed to the beneficiary groups. This is in line with the Group’s effort in efficient waste management and recycling of usable office equipment. Meor Shahril Anuar who mooted the idea said, "TM Melaka embarked on the upgrading exercise in 2017. With the initiative, TM Melaka has recorded substantial savings in our electrical expenditure while increasing the awareness on green practices amongst the staff. Besides this upgrading exercise, at TM Melaka, we continue to support one of the three-pronged approach of the Company’s Corporate Responsibility (CR) initiatives namely the environment with various other green initiatives. This include recycling of used papers, encouraging the employees to bring their own food containers when buying food at the cafeteria as well as dissemination of periodical information on green practices to Warga Keluarga TM Melaka.” “At TM, we seek to minimise our use of materials as well as the generation of waste in order to lessen the pressure on the world’s natural resources. We employ the 3R principles of reduce, reuse and recycle throughout the Group, instilling the practice in our employees as well as those of our contractors. The distribution of the used pendafluor lamps to the communities today is an example of our initiatives towards this end. As a result of our ongoing 3R efforts, in 2017, we reduced more than 11% in solid and scheduled waste generation in TM’s selected buildings,” Meor elaborated. In addition to the Durian Tunggal area, TM Melaka will also contribute the pendarfluor lamps to those in needs in the areas of Ayer Keroh and Paya Rumput. Besides residences, the lamps will also be contributed to mosques, schools, hostels and multipurpose halls.
TM supports national Immunisation Programme with MMU Cyberjaya and Melaka as PPV venues and TM rovers volunteers
Multimedia University (MMU) Cyberjaya campus becomes an Integrated Mega Vaccine Delivery Centre (PPV), in addition to MMU Melaka to further accelerate the national Immunisation Programme. Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) further strengthens its support of the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK) when its university, Multimedia University (MMU) Cyberjaya campus began its operations as an Integrated Mega Vaccine Delivery Centre (PPV) facility starting 15 July 2021. This further complements the operations of MMU Melaka campus as a PPV since mid-June. The Integrated Mega PPV at MMU Cyberjaya campus will be able to accommodate the administration of 3,000 doses of vaccine per day. Combined with the Melaka campus, both PPV facilities have the capacity to cater for 3,600 doses of vaccine daily. In addition to these facilities, TM also deployed more than 30 TM Reaching Out Volunteers (ROVers) amongst its Warga TM to lend a helping hand at Mega PPV Bukit Jalil starting 12 July 2021. This will be extended to more venues progressively. Commenting on the support, Imri Mokhtar, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM said: "We believe our responsibility to help the nation curb the pandemic goes beyond our role as an essential service provider. We are very honoured that both our MMU campuses in Cyberjaya and Melaka have been selected to be PPV facilities. Together with the deployment of our TM ROVers volunteers, this is our undivided commitment to further accelerate the national Immunisation Programme so we can help achieve herd immunity for the nation faster." TM also runs its own internal drive to encourage its employees to register for vaccination and to date, more than 80% of Warga TM has registered for the national immunisation programme and 51% of them have been vaccinated or at least have an appointment set for their first dose. "TM remains fully supportive of the Government's recovery plan. We continue to ensure Malaysians are connected in the safety of their homes and that all our customer support services are in operation throughout each phase of the recovery plan. As the enabler of Digital Malaysia, we will support all our customer segments across homes, businesses, industry as well as the public sector with connectivity and digital infrastructure and solutions towards economic recovery. We join all Malaysians in prayer for our safety and health nationwide; please continue to stay safe and ensure that we get vaccinated – together may we return stronger," he concluded.
