Afhzal, aged 50, a Malaysian, was appointed as Non-Independent Non-Executive Director (NINED) of TM on 1 December 2021. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University, New York, United States of America (USA).

Afhzal is currently the Chief Digital Technology Officer (CDTO) of the Employees Provident Fund (EPF). As the CDTO, he is responsible for driving digital technology strategy, business digital enablement, technology adoption and operations. 

He has over 27 years of experience in digital and technology, encompassing strategy and architecture, business transformation and enablement, technology implementations for enterprises in the financial services, and oil and gas industries. Out of this experience, Afzhal spent more than 16 years with global multinational organisations such as Maybank, Shell, T-Systems, DHL, IBM and ESSO (now ExxonMobil) in the execution and implementation of strategic technology initiatives that deliver business outcomes.

Afhzal is a member of the Board Audit Committee and a Director of TM Digital Innovation Sdn. Bhd. (Credence), a wholly-owned subsidiary of TM.
