New Solutions Set to Elevate Internet Experience of Malaysians

​​​​​On the back of the recent announcement to further increase the overall coverage and internet quality of the nation, unifi, the premier Convergence brand under Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), today brings another #khabarbaik to its Streamyx customers. At the event, unifi unveiled unifi Air - its latest wireless high-speed broadband service - as one of many solutions to elevate the internet experience of existing Streamyx customers who reside in its LTE coverage areas. Meanwhile, existing Streamyx customers who are eagerly waiting to experience higher broadband speed will be migrated to unifi Lite starting September 2019.

Speaking at the event, Moharmustaqeem Mohammed, said, “We are excited to launch unifi Air as it embodies our commitment to bring #khabarbaik to all Malaysians to ensure that no one is left behind in Malaysia’s journey of evolving into a Digital Nation. unifi Air is an upgrade to our existing services, and is being offered from as low as RM79/month to further boost Internet accessibility for Malaysians. At the same time, we are migrating existing Streamyx customers who are not within our unifi fibre and LTE coverage areas to the new unifi Lite plan at a discounted price at RM69/month first so they could enjoy the benefits of being part of our unifi family while waiting for the network expansion. One of the key benefits is to enjoy free door-to-door service assurance within two (2) hours starting with five (5) areas, which are Shah Alam, Bangsar/Pantai Dalam, Johor Bahru, Butterworth and Georgetown, starting October 2019. We remain committed to expanding beyond these 5 areas to deliver an enhanced internet experience for all existing and future customers nationwide.”

Meanwhile, Dato’ Noor Kamarul said, “The unveiling of unifi Air and migration to unifi Lite today are testament of our efforts in delivering seamless connectivity to all Malaysians. unifi Air is powered by a quick and easy plug-and-play wireless modem that able to connect up to 64 devices with an average speed of 20Mbps, and will be available to over 35,000 homes across 28 LTE areas nationwide. The newly unveiled unifi Air plan is specially designed for existing Streamyx users, with details as follows:

For existing Streamyx customers who reside outside of fibre and LTE coverage areas and existing unifi Lite customers will enjoy the new unifi Lite plan at a discounted price RM69/month from their September 2019 bill onwards. Starting 1 September 2019, new customers can sign up to the new unifi Lite plan of up to 8Mbps at RM89/month. These are interim measures whilst a new network is being rolled out until 2021 via various fit-for-purpose technologies.  

In addition to the new broadband services, unifi also announced its new and first all-in-one app; myunifi, which aims to provide customers a hassle-free experience and peace of mind in managing their unifi account. The app comes with features like 24-hour installation, 24-hour live chat support, zero no show assurance and more convenient payment options. In addition, myunifi app is enhanced with ‘digitalme’, a secured digital ID to facilitate the single sign-on not only to myunifi app, but also to the unifi.com.my portal and soon; other unifi apps as well. The myunifi app is now available for free and downloadable via Google PlayStore and Apple AppStore

TM through unifi, has completed its internet upgrade programme in April 2019 with 973,000 unifi customers upgraded to 10 times the existing speed; 266,000 Streamyx customers in unifi coverage areas upgraded to unifi and 226,000 Streamyx customers in non-unifi coverage areas upgraded to 2 times existing speed where technology permits. unifi remains committed to address the copper network challenges via various technologies such as fibre, wireless and GigaWire in a network rollout which will involve a phased customer migration starting today until 2021. It is expected that 70% of these customers will be able to enjoy unifi services by end 2020.

TM’S PAKEJ PERPADUAN JALUR LEBAR TETAP (HOME INTERNET) AIMS TO DRIVE DIGITAL INCLUSIVITY FOR MALAYSIANS

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) has today announced the launch of its Pakej Perpaduan Jalur Lebar Tetap (Home Internet) for underserved communities in Malaysia, in response to the challenges faced by these key communities in the digital age. The offering is aligned with the Ministry of Communications and Digital’s efforts to address concerns of underserved Malaysians from the B40, the elderly, OKU, and army-police veterans in accessing reliable and affordable internet services.   Following Minister of Communications and Digital, YB Fahmi Fadzil’s announcement today during the launching ceremony in Bakar Arang, Sungai Petani, Kedah, Pakej Perpaduan Jalur Lebar Tetap is now available for subscription nationwide. This collaboration between TM and the Government demonstrates the shared commitment to deliver digital inclusivity throughout Malaysia.   Underserved communities often experience adversity in accessing the benefits of the digital world and uninterrupted connectivity. Students from low-income households, for example, face challenges in accessing online learning platforms, while job seekers may struggle to find employment opportunities or even in starting up small e-Commerce businesses to support their livelihoods. Additionally, a lack of access to digital services and information can limit options for essential services, such as healthcare and Government services. Via this offering, TM seeks to bridge the digital divide through hyperconnectivity and empower these communities with the necessary tools and resources to succeed in the digital age.   “As a conscientious corporate entity, TM has a social responsibility to create a meaningful impact on the community. Unifi’s fixed broadband services will be available at a more affordable rate, ensuring that more Malaysians have access to reliable internet connectivity. unifi tapping into youth minds to deliver more #khabarbaik

Aimed at improving customer experience directly, unifi gathers ideas from the best talents through its first-ever Hackathon unifi, the premier Convergence brand under Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), stays true to its #khabarbaik spirit, organised its first ever hackathon to tap into the young creative talents to create brilliant ideas to resolve pain points and enhance the service experience of unifi customers. The 24-hour, non-stop hackathon challenge was successfully organised at Multimedia University (MMU), Cyberjaya recently with over 110 local and foreign talented students from 13 public as well as private universities nationwide. Harnessing creative brains to create innovative solutions for unifi unifi’s call for creative genius among the university students in this hackathon received participation from a total of 27 teams from various local universities. The participants were in groups of three (3) to five (5) members with different backgrounds of expertise from coders, hackers to designers came together to pit against each other and build innovative and practical digital solutions within 24 hours. The teams were tasked to ideate and develop innovative digital solutions, which can be adopted and implemented by unifi. Moharmustaqeem Mohammed, Acting Executive Vice President, unifi, attended the event and spent time getting to know the participants closer. He also shared his experience and aspirations for the event when he commented, “As an integrated telco and the enabler of Malaysia’s digital aspirations, unifi is always listening and looking for ways to improve our services and processes so we can serve Malaysians better. We are committed to bringing #khabarbaik to address our customers’ pain points and what better way to do so than through the best young talents who are also our customers. We are committed to deploying the ideas from the winning teams, hence, the winners are rewarded with an exclusive opportunity to work with the unifi digital team, so we could together, roll out the solutions quickly to the market.” Ten (10) winning projects were shortlisted to demonstrate their presentation to the panel of judges and after gruelling coding exercise and much anticipation from the participating teams, top three (3) teams were selected as grand winners. The judging was based on their abilities to build exciting digital solutions aimed at enhancing unifi customer experience. The key winning factors include innovation, originality and design whilst measuring the technical ability of each team.  The 3 Grand Winners for unifi Hackathon 2019 after much deliberation were Fast Data team from Asia Pacific University; Green Phoenix team from University of Malaya and Taylor’s University; and RGB team from University of Malaya.
