TM MARKS 80 YEARS OF CONNECTING MALAYSIA; COMMITS TO A PROGRESSIVE AND INCLUSIVE AI-DRIVEN FUTURE
CYBERJAYA, 26 AUGUST 2026 — Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today marked its 80th anniversary, reaffirming its role in Malaysia's development, and committing to an inclusive digital future built on trusted infrastructure, local talent and stronger national capabilities.
The TM80: Merentasi Generasi celebration, held at Multimedia University (MMU) Cyberjaya, was officiated by Prime Minister YAB Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Also in attendance was Dato’ Seri Amirudin bin Shari, Chief Minister of Selangor; Dato' Seri Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications; Tan Sri Shamsul Azri bin Abu Bakar, Chief Secretary to the Government of Malaysia; and Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh, Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
The celebration captured TM’s journey, and the people and technologies that empowered Malaysia. From postal and telegram services to the first wired connections that broadcasted Tunku Abdul Rahman's proclamation of “Merdeka”, and every digital milestone after, TM80 is the story of generations of Malaysians growing alongside the nation’s progress.

ADVANCING INCLUSIVE DIGITAL PROGRESS
TM believes digital progress must reach all Malaysians. From major cities to rural communities and remote islands, TM continues to extend connectivity using fibre, wireless, satellite and other technologies suited to local and geographical needs.
At Kampung Mukut in Pulau Tioman, fibre connectivity delivered via a 75-kilometre submarine cable powers village-wide WiFi. Vision AI CCTVs help keep the village safe and manage visitor flows, while local entrepreneurs use visitmukut.com, a community-run tourism platform to showcase their services. Lessons from Mukut are now extended across Tioman through Sekolah Angkat MADANI and digital empowerment programmes. Warga TM also keep networks running during times of crisis such as the pandemic, floods and other emergencies. Beyond specialised technicians, customer support teams and personnel across the country, the trained Rejimen Semboyan Pakar Telekom Askar Wataniah restore communications, safeguard assets, and deliver aid when communities need them most.
TM's partnership with the neurodivergent community including NAK SENI, ZimiJ and the Early Autism Project, has also created platforms for visibility and participation, while its support for the National Sepak Takraw Squad enables athletes from grassroots development to national representation.
DEVELOPING LOCAL TALENT
Beyond communities, TM continues to develop talent. In 1996, MMU became Malaysia's first private university, nurturing the talent a digital economy would need. Today, it has produced more than 80,000 graduates and has over 18,000 students enrolled.
Through MMU and other programmes such as TM Future Skills (TMFS), Yayasan TM (YTM), TVET MADANI, Sekolah Angkat Malaysia MADANI, and other programmes, TM empowers future engineers, entrepreneurs and industry leaders. This includes bringing STEM, coding, robotics, AI and holistic character development to 35 adopted schools nationwide, while MMU's Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Engineering prepares the next generation of AI, cloud and cybersecurity specialists.
OPENING MALAYSIA TO THE WORLD
Since the SEACOM submarine cable of 1964 linked Malaysia to international networks, and the Kuantan Earth Satellite Station in 1970 broadcasted the Ali-Frazier fight directly to Malaysian homes, TM has opened the world to Malaysia, and Malaysia to the world.
Today, TM's international network of more than 400,000 kilometres across 39 submarine cable systems positions Malaysia as a connector of East and West, strengthening global data and trade flows. TM's participation in global consortiums continues to build links between Malaysia, ASEAN and the rest of the world, while its latest Morib Cable Landing Station, the fifth in the country, strengthens international access and route diversity.
Adding to this integrated ecosystem, TM operates six data centres and is adding new capacity through the TM Nxera regional campus that is built international sustainability standards. Beyond infrastructure, TM’s AI Centre of Excellence obtained the international ISO/IEC 42001:2023 Artificial Intelligence Management System certification, making TM the first telecommunications company in Malaysia to obtain these international AI credentials.
While technology and the needs of the nation will continue to change, TM remains committed to the same responsibility – to lay the inclusive digital foundations for the country, even before it begins to need it.

TM INITIATED INTERNAL INVESTIGATION PRIOR TO DOJ ACTION INVOLVING FORMER TM USA EMPLOYEES
Telekom Malaysia (“TM”, “the Company”) is aware of reports concerning certain former employees of TM USA Inc.These individuals are no longer employed by the Company. The Company had earlier initiated its own investigation pursuant to suspicion of misconduct by the individuals, which led to their dismissal. Information from the investigation was then shared with the relevant authorities. The matter is currently under the purview of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the US Court. TM’S PAKEJ PERPADUAN JALUR LEBAR TETAP (HOME INTERNET) AIMS TO DRIVE DIGITAL INCLUSIVITY FOR MALAYSIANS
Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) has today announced the launch of its Pakej Perpaduan Jalur Lebar Tetap (Home Internet) for underserved communities in Malaysia, in response to the challenges faced by these key communities in the digital age. The offering is aligned with the Ministry of Communications and Digital’s efforts to address concerns of underserved Malaysians from the B40, the elderly, OKU, and army-police veterans in accessing reliable and affordable internet services. Following Minister of Communications and Digital, YB Fahmi Fadzil’s announcement today during the launching ceremony in Bakar Arang, Sungai Petani, Kedah, Pakej Perpaduan Jalur Lebar Tetap is now available for subscription nationwide. This collaboration between TM and the Government demonstrates the shared commitment to deliver digital inclusivity throughout Malaysia. Underserved communities often experience adversity in accessing the benefits of the digital world and uninterrupted connectivity. Students from low-income households, for example, face challenges in accessing online learning platforms, while job seekers may struggle to find employment opportunities or even in starting up small e-Commerce businesses to support their livelihoods. Additionally, a lack of access to digital services and information can limit options for essential services, such as healthcare and Government services. Via this offering, TM seeks to bridge the digital divide through hyperconnectivity and empower these communities with the necessary tools and resources to succeed in the digital age. “As a conscientious corporate entity, TM has a social responsibility to create a meaningful impact on the community. A Golden Tribute for SEA Games Sepak Takraw Champions
KUALA LUMPUR, 11 February 2026 – The Persekutuan Sepaktakraw Malaysia (PSM), together with its Official Partner Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), recently honoured the National Sepak Takraw Squad following their historic performance at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, at an appreciation ceremony held at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL). The occasion was marked by the presentation of an exclusive, one-of-a-kind 999.9 commemorative gold coin by TM to each SEA Games gold medallist, symbolising TM’s pride in having supported the national squad’s journey to the top of the podium.The national squad delivered a proud milestone for Malaysian sport, securing two gold medals and three bronze medals, including a long-awaited victory in the Men’s Team Regu event - reclaiming the gold after 34 years. This reflects years of commitment, discipline and perseverance within the team, backed by support from TM as the Official Partner of the national squad.The appreciation ceremony brought together players, coaches, and officials to acknowledge not only the medals won, but the collective journey behind the success.
