INSPIRED BY TRUE EVENTS, TM’S ‘GEMA MALAYSIA’ HONOURS THE UNSUNG HEROES BEHIND THE VOICE OF MERDEKA
KUALA LUMPUR, 30 August 2026 – When Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj proclaimed “Merdeka” on 31 August 1957, his voice echoed across Malaya, carrying the hopes of a nation newly free. Beyond Stadium Merdeka, however, another story was unfolding – a group of people working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure that this historic moment could be heard across the country.
This year, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) brings this lesser-known story to life through Gema Malaysia, a short film inspired by an article published in The Malay Mail on 31 August 1957. The film pays tribute to the unsung heroes of the then Telecommunications Department, whose dedication and sacrifice helped carry the voice of independence to the nation.
Inspired by true events, Gema Malaysia combines the emotional weight of history with creative storytelling. Where archival visual references were limited, digital technology and artificial intelligence (AI) were selectively used to support the visual reconstruction of the era. These elements were guided by research and available historical references to preserve the authenticity and spirit of the story.
At its heart, the film is a reminder that behind every defining moment are people whose names may never be known—people who step forward, persevere and serve so that the nation can continue to move ahead. The title itself means “the echo of Malaysia”, reflecting how a single act of service can transcend generations and help shape its future.
Dato’ Zainal Abidin Putih, Chairman of TM, said, “Gema Malaysia pays tribute to the dedication and sense of duty of those who worked tirelessly to ensure the voice of independence reached the nation. TM and Tata Communications join forces for IP Transit services in ASEAN
Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), the national connectivity and digital infrastructure provider through its global and wholesale arm, TM WHOLESALE and Tata Communications, a global digital ecosystem enabler’s wholly-owned subsidiary, Tata Communications International Pte Ltd., join forces to offer stable, high-speed and reliable connectivity in the ASEAN region and open access to global enterprises. This collaboration will enable service providers, mobile network operators and internet service providers in the region to address their customers’ growing data connectivity needs by providing access to a global Tier 1 Internet Protocol (IP) network. This will help deliver reliable, stable Tier-1 IP Transit (IPT) service, an internet connectivity service that enables end-users to access all websites and content on the internet. This will further boost sectors such as e-commerce, online entertainment, retail, online banking and delivery services that have accelerated in recent times. As part of this arrangement, Tata Communications expands its IPT service coverage leveraging TM’s data centre, extensive connectivity and network infrastructure in Malaysia. This collaboration will also enable Tata Communications to optimise TM’s reachability within the ASEAN region through terrestrial networks and submarine cables to the neighbouring countries. The submarine cables include the Malaysia-Cambodia-Thailand submarine cable for connectivity to Indochina and, Nusantara Gateway submarine cable for connectivity to Indonesia. At the same time, TM will benefit from Tata Communications global Tier-1 IP network to serve customers in more than 190 countries and territories hence further extending TM’s IP transit coverage and enhances its regional TMiX offering. Commenting on the collaboration, Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, Executive Vice President of TM WHOLESALE, stated, “We are delighted to work with a renowned global player like Tata Communications, to fulfil our role as the digital infrastructure accelerator in Malaysia. TM One-UC Tati collaboration to enhance Terengganu’s tech research and development; enables education equity for students in the state
The Master Services Agreement (MSA) between TM & UC TATI will enable the digital transformation initiatives of this state government university college TM One, the enterprise and public sector business solutions arm of Telekom Malaysia (TM), has signed a Master Services Agreement (MSA) with University College Terengganu Advanced Technical Institute (UC TATI) to provide high speed managed data and Internet services at its Teluk Kalong Kemaman Campus and Kuala Terengganu City Campus respectively, for the benefit and use by the students, lecturers and staff. The partnership, which includes a complete end-to-end package of both Wide Area Network and Local Area Network effectively enables wireless connectivity throughout the campuses, and is part of the Terengganu-based institution's efforts to enhance its digital research and development field, as well as delighting student experiences post pandemic. In particular, TM One’s high-speed Internet services will support the Terengganu Big Data Institute (BDIT) located at UC TATI to conduct research and activities related to public data for the university college and the Terengganu State Government. With this, TM One enables UC TATI to explore new digital technologies such as Cloud-Based Services, Public Data and Disaster Recovery Centres that will enhance student learning as well as potentially serve the local Government and surrounding communities. General Manager of State Sales for TM One, Jamalullail Mohd said, “This agreement symbolises the strong partnership between TM One and UC TATI to provide next gen connectivity services for more contextual teaching and learning experiences to students. TM SUSTAINS GROWTH AND VALUE CREATION MOMENTUM IN 2Q 2026; REVENUE UP 6.8%, DECLARES SECOND INTERIM DIVIDEND OF 7.0 SEN
KUALA LUMPUR, 20 AUGUST 2026 – Telekom Malaysia Berhad (“TM” or “the Group”) today announced its financial results for the second quarter ended 30 June 2026 (2Q 2026), recording a 6.8% increase in revenue to RM2.96 billion compared with the same period last year. The performance was supported by growth across all customer segments and continued traction in convergence, enterprise digital solutions and regional digital infrastructure.The Group maintained resilient underlying performance while advancing its strategic growth priorities. Underlying Profit After Tax and Non-Controlling Interests (PATAMI) increased 4.6% to RM406.3 million in 2Q 2026, supported by resilient core operations and lower net financing costs. On a reported basis, PATAMI stood at RM365.5 million after accounting for costs related to Prihatin and foreign-exchange movements.For the first half of 2026 (1H 2026), revenue grew 4.8% to RM5.90 billion. Underlying PATAMI increased 7.0% to RM842.6 million compared with the same period last year, while the reported PATAMI stood at RM687.0 million. The performance remained encouraging despite significant year-on-year adjustments, including the previously announced 5G capacity write-down and other one-off costs. These costs were specific to the period and non-recurring in nature.These strategic actions taken will strengthen TM’s operating efficiency and support sustainable long-term growth. Backed by its resilient underlying performance, the Group remains confident in delivering its FY2026 guidance and maintaining its commitment to sustainable dividends for shareholders.Reflecting this positive performance and commitment to value creation, the Board declared a second interim dividend of 7.0 sen per share. This brings the total dividend for 1H 2026 to 13.5 sen per share, representing 75% of reported PATAMI, higher than the same period last year.Meanwhile, Capital expenditure (CAPEX) stood at RM555.7 million in 1H 2026, representing 9.4% of revenue, with investments focused on growth initiatives, such as data centre, cloud, GPU-as-a-Service (GPUaas) and access to 5G. CAPEX is expected to catch up in the second half of the year as the Group accelerates planned investments, in line with its full-year guidance.Datuk Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, TM Group Chief Executive Officer, said, “Our overall performance demonstrates how the PWR 2030 strategy is delivering tangible progress across the Group. For consumers, we are strengthening Unifi’s convergence proposition by delivering greater value across broadband, mobile and smart home AI solutions, while making premium content more accessible through Unifi TV, such as the FIFA World Cup 2026™. For enterprises and the Government, we are progressing higher value, “nationally hosted” digital solutions, including cloud, cybersecurity, smart services and AI platforms. At the same time, we continue to strengthen our regional connectivity and data centre infrastructure to capture growing demand from hyperscalers and AI-driven workloads.“Embracing AI and sustainability remain integral to our transformation. Guided by Prosperity, Planet and People, we are ensuring that TM’s growth strengthens business resilience, advances environmental stewardship and enables inclusive digital progress.“We have taken bold but necessary strategic actions in the first half to strengthen TM’s efficiency, competitiveness and profitability in the long run. With the disciplined execution we have continued to demonstrate, coupled with our focus on growing higher-value recurring revenue across all customer segments, we remain on track to deliver our FY2026 guidance and value-creation commitments, including sustainable shareholder returns. These efforts will further reinforce TM’s role as the nation’s digital orchestrator and advance our Digital Powerhouse 2030 aspiration,” he added.Growth Across Business Segments in 1H 2026B2C (Unifi): Revenue grew 5.2% to RM2.91 billion in 1H 2026, supported by stronger adoption of device-bundled and converged offerings across broadband, mobile, content and smart home solutions. The fixed broadband subscriber base remained stable at 3.23 million despite the competitive market landscape, indicating effective campaign execution. Encouraging demand for cloud and cybersecurity solutions among MSMEs through Unifi Business also contributed to a stronger overall Unifi revenue mix. Moving forward, Unifi will reinforce its convergence leadership by strengthening mobile and smart home value proposition; expanding content-led bundles through next-generation TV, building on the FIFA World Cup 2026™ momentum; enhancing customer experience through agentic AI and digital self-care; and expanding digital solutions for MSMEs.B2B (TM One and Credence): Revenue increased 1.9% to RM1.36 billion in 1H 2026, supported by continued demand for connectivity and advanced digital solutions from enterprises and the Government. The Government segment growth was driven by new wins and renewals across cloud, contact centre outsourcing, smart services and cybersecurity, alongside recurring connectivity demand for national strategic projects. The Enterprise segment’s performance remained healthy, supported by connectivity renewals, new data services win in the banking sector and an M2M eSIM project enabling in-vehicle connectivity for a national automotive player. Moving forward, TM One will expand higher-value recurring services across connectivity, cloud, cybersecurity, smart services and AI, further strengthening its role as the trusted digital partner for enterprises and the Government.C2C (TM Global): Revenue rose 6.8% to RM1.55 billion in 1H 2026, supported by sustained momentum across data centre, international data and 5G backhaul services. Iskandar Puteri Data Centre (IPDC) Block 2 has been fully taken up, while the successful landing of the Asia Link Cable in Sedili, Johor, adds another strategic route to TM’s international connectivity. Domestically, TM Global reinforced its role as a key 5G backhaul provider, with more than 9,500 sites deployed nationwide, supporting over 80% network coverage. Moving forward, TM Global will expand its 5G backhaul, submarine cable and cross-border connectivity, while scaling its data centre capacity—including the development of TM Nxera—and GPUaaS capabilities to support growing cloud and AI workloads.
