MYCORAL: MARINE EDUCATION INITIATIVE (2017)
Increasing Public Awareness on Preserving Marine Ecosystem via Coral Propagation and Conservation
One of the significant environmental projects undertaken in 2017, MyCoral: Marine Education Initiative was organised in collaboration with Yayasan Coral Malaysia. The initiative forms part of a three-year journey in ensuring the coral of Pulau Bidong in Terengganu have a better chance of propagating and multiplying.
We are incredibly proud of this initiative because we opted to champion the preservation of coral, which serves as a critical ecological role in the marine ecosystem, protecting the shoreline and nurturing marine biodiversity. Our specific interest in marine conservation has been inspired by the realisation that the telecommunications industry may have harmed underwater life in the process of installing international connectivity in collaboration with submarine cable network consortium's partners over the years. Through this marine project, TM hopes to raise further awareness of this global cause. We propagated and restored 400 corals at Pulau Bidong, Terengganu to kick start our marine educational initiative for the next three years
Corals Malaysia: Marine Educational & Incubators Initiatives (2018 & 2019)In our second and third year collaborating with Yayasan Coral Malaysia (YCM), we continued the MyCoral Marine Educational Initiative (MyCoral) implementation, but we involved local fishermen.

YCM with the assistance by TM Reaching Out Volunteers (TM ROVers), trained these fishermen via several hands-on training sessions.
In 2019, invested in a total of 65 coral propagation tables which translated to a total 6,500 new corals propagated. From this, we returned 10% of these cultured Acropora corals to the ocean for conservation.
We propagated over 6,500 corals propagated since the programme's establishment in 2017, with more than 1,200 coral reefs were propagated in 2018-2019 by more than 300 volunteers from diverse backgrounds. We trained nine (9) incubators and local fishermen with sustainable coral farming techniques for them to be able to grow more corals in the future.
