TM AND SINGTEL’S NXERA FORM JOINT VENTURE TO DEVELOP NEXT-GENERATION DATA CENTRES
KUALA LUMPUR, SINGAPORE, 18 JUNE 2024 – TM is partnering Nxera, the regional data centre arm of Singtel’s Digital InfraCo unit, in a joint venture to develop data centres in Malaysia starting with a sustainable, hyper-connected AI-ready data centre campus in Johor. This strategic partnership aims to serve the needs of hyperscalers, next-generation AI application providers and enterprises pursuing accelerated digitalisation and cloud in the region. The joint venture is a unique proposition, bolstered by the extensive subsea cable networks of TM and Singtel’s Digital InfraCo which provide global connectivity and enhanced network performance with lower latency and improved reliability.

Located in Iskandar Puteri, just 16 km from Singapore, the data centre campus will be the largest to date for both TM and Nxera. It will be built to the latest standards for reliability, security and sustainability while offering the best local and international connectivity. With its close proximity to subsea cable links between Singapore and Malaysia, the data centre will be well-placed to support the increasing demand from both countries’ digitalisation and development initiatives.
The initial phase of the data centre is planned for 64MW and can be scaled up to 200MW in response to market demand. This high-power density campus will be able to host large computing and AI capabilities such as requirements by cloud hyperscalers, GPU-as-a-Service providers and features advanced technologies such as liquid cooling to support high-power density workloads and operations efficiently. The data centre will be a LEED-certified (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building, emphasising its commitment to greater energy efficiency and sustainable practices.
As Malaysia’s integrated telco and technology leader, TM will contribute its expertise in the region’s network infrastructure deployment to deliver customised range of wholesale data, connectivity, data centre and platform solutions catering to both local and international needs. Additionally, TM also provides Cloud services via its sovereign Cloud Alpha Edge solution.
TM currently operates seven data centres across Malaysia with 2 core data centres located in Klang Valley and Johor. Its entry into the Asia Link Cable Systems (ALC) partnership facilitates the laying of a submarine cable system spanning approximately 7,200km, with an initial design capacity of 24 Terabits/sec. Coupled with the establishment of an international Cable Landing Station at TM Exchange Kuala Sedili, Johor, these serve as vital infrastructure enhancements to accelerate the growth of the data centre industry in the state.
Nxera is a rapidly growing regional platform backed by Singtel and leading global investment firm KKR, leveraging its data centre operations in Singapore to expand overseas. Customers can also tap into a host of services such as Singtel’s Paragon cloud orchestration platform and upcoming GPU-as-a-Service. They will be able to orchestrate their AI workloads in a multi-network and multi-cloud environment, serving as a catalyst for greater innovation, entrepreneurship and business excellence.
Nxera is developing three new AI-ready data centres in the region in addition to 62MW of existing capacity in Singapore. This includes a new 58MW data centre in Tuas, Singapore and data centres with partners in Indonesia and Thailand. Nxera’s total pipeline capacity is set to increase from its current operational capacity of 62MW in Singapore to more than 200MW in the region in the next three years. The data centres will be served by Digital InfraCo's comprehensive network of subsea fibre-optic cables which provide customers with the best country-to-country connectivity in the Asia Pacific region.

TM Advances STEM Education at 35 Schools Nationwide, Launches TMFS Programme
PENANG, 26 November 2025 – Yayasan TM (YTM), the foundation arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), today launched the TM Future Skills (TMFS) programme at SMKA (P) AlMashoor, Penang, one of 35 schools nationwide adopted by YTM under the Government’s Sekolah Angkat Malaysia MADANI initiative. Representing YB Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah bin Azizan, Minister of Finance II, the launch was officiated by YB Lim Hui Ying, Deputy Minister of Finance – marking an important milestone in expanding digital learning opportunities and strengthening students’ participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). As an all-girls school, SMKA (P) AlMashoor represents an important opportunity to strengthen female participation in STEM and inspire more young women to pursue future-focused fields. This aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality), particularly in ensuring equal access to education and promoting women’s involvement in science and technology. The school also exemplifies the inclusivity that TMFS aims to deliver across all 35 adopted schools which span remote, island, vernacular and religious schools. This diversity underscores TM’s commitment to ensuring that students, regardless of background or learning environment, gain equitable access to future-ready digital education. YB Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah bin Azizan, Minister of Finance II, highlighted the importance of strengthening digital readiness in schools to support Malaysia’s long-term economic aspirations. “Initiatives such as TM Future Skills play a meaningful role in preparing students with the digital competencies needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world, particularly for high-value sectors that drive national growth. This is an exemplary model of a collaborative effort between government, industry and schools, and I applaud TM for this programme.” TMFS provides students with structured exposure to STEM subjects through hands-on learning and practical application, including robotics, 3D design, coding, microcontrollers and AI-assisted learning tools. Beyond STEM modules, TMFS also offers teacher certification, digital and soft-skills training including AI learning and communication skills, as well as capability building activities beyond the classroom, such as sports and academic competitions. These components ensure a more holistic and integrated future skills experience for participating schools. A central feature of the programme is the TMFS Digital Hub. Equipped with 3D printers, robotics kits, programming and coding sets, the hub enables students to apply classroom concepts through real-world activities. Selected “nucleus” schools such as SMKA (P) AlMashoor will also extend the benefits of their Digital Hubs to surrounding satellite schools, contributing to the programme’s broader reach. Collectively, the TMFS programme is expected to benefit more than 60,000 students nationwide through shared learning, digital training and enhanced teacher readiness. YTM launches “Young Filmmaker 2021” for young, creative filmmakers with total cash prizes of RM25,000 to be won!
The competition with its theme “Return Stronger”, organised in collaboration with Strada Films Sdn Bhd, offers total cash prizes of RM25,000 to 9 winners, complete with digital content, knowledge sharing, live events and film masterclasses opportunities Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) through its foundation arm, Yayasan TM (YTM) has taken the initiative to continue supporting the nation’s creative industry development by organising “Young Filmmaker 2021”, a short film competition. It opens up opportunities for young, local budding filmmakers to express their creative ideas and talents and enhance their potential in professional filmmaking. The competition, with the theme “Return Stronger”, is open to all students as well as the public from ages 18 to 35 and offers total cash prizes of RM25,000 to nine (9) winners. It is co-organised by Strada Films Sdn Bhd in collaboration with Digital Perak Corporation Holdings (Digital Perak), Multimedia University (MMU) as well a host of other partners to provide digital content, knowledge sharing, live events and masterclasses throughout this three (3) months programme. The “Young Filmmaker 2021” was officially launched in a virtual ceremony by Zakaria Abdul Hamid, Chairman of National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) together with Izlyn Ramli, Director of YTM; and Mohamad Azlan Norani, Chief Executive Officer, Strada Films Sdn Bhd. The virtual session was also joined by Meor Rezal Fitri Dato' Dr. Hj. Meor Redwan, Chief Executive Officer of Digital Perak; Khir Rahman, President of Malaysian Cinematic Auteurs Guild (MCAG); and Ghaz Abu Bakar, President of Digital Creative Content Creators Associations Malaysia (DCAM) who is also the lead juror for the competition. Commenting on the launch, Izlyn said, “As a purpose driven social impact based foundation, YTM is committed to human capital development and today, we are unveiling yet another digital platform to unleash the budding talents in the creative industry; particularly filmmaking in Malaysia. The “Young Filmmaker 2021” is a collaborative effort that we hope will further empower them through digital content creation. The Young Filmmaker 2021 competition features a panel of professional jurors comprising renowned film directors and producers such as Ghaz Abu Bakar, Eyra Rahman, Vimala Perumal, Khir Rahman, Aziz M. Osman, Jason Chong, Nik Amir, Razaisyam Rashid and Azhari Zain. YTM also collaborates with the Malaysian Cinematic Auteurs Guild (MCAG) to provide opportunities for young talents to reach their highest potential in filmmaking. The winner of The Best Director Award for this programme will be selected as a Finalist for the “Rahsia Sutradara” Programme by MCAG under the Malaysia Creative Capabilities Enhancement Programme (MyCAP). The winner of the award will have a chance to be mentored by a distinguished panel of film directors to produce a fully sponsored film worth up to RM1.2 million. This collaboration will further broaden the young filmmakers’ horizons from short films to full-fledged movies. Besides MCAG, Digital Perak together with the State’s arts and culture agencies; Perak State Information Department, Perak Tourism, People of Remarkable Talents (PORT) Ipoh and other partners will also host a series of knowledge sharing programmes for the participants of “Young Filmmaker 2021” with industry experts virtually through the PiOR.TV interactive channel. This will provide the young talents with the insights into the art and business of filmmaking. This is not YTM’s first collaboration in the creative industry. In 2015, YTM and unifi TV organised an ‘I Want To Be A Filmmaker’ (IWTBAF) competition to discover talented young local filmmakers. Azlan Norani was the Grand Prize Winner in the competition and he won a YTM scholarship in Cinematic Arts at MMU. After the competition, Azlan continued his studies in MMU at the Iskandar Puteri campus in Johor and later founded his own film production company, Strada Films Sdn Bhd. “Young Filmmaker 2021” is calling for emerging and professional content creators to submit their short films around the theme of “Return Stronger”, before the closing deadline of 31 December 2021. Nurturing future digital leaders through YTM Future Skills Champion Schools
Enhances its adopted schools programme to be more holistic by embedding digital technology and leadership skills TM, through Yayasan TM (YTM), recognises the need to equip the next generation with the digital and technology skills required for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0). In view of this, in 2014, YTM began its Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) oriented programmes, such as robotics, 3D modelling, coding, and big data analytics, to promote those subjects amongst students and education communities at schools nationwide. In 2020, the modules were conslidated into TM Future Skills (TMFS) programme, with the aim of making it more comprehensive and beneficial to the intended participants. The programme was tailored to the syllabus outlined by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and covered the nine (9) pillars of the IR4.0. It has been receiving positive feedback from the teachers and students involved and more schools have requested to be part of the programme. Supporting MOE’s aspiration for digital education transformation, YTM continues to spread the positive impact of TMFS in a more structured approach. Towards this end, the foundation has embarked on TM Future Skills Champion School (TMFS School) initiative, as a continuation of the TM School Adoption Programme with enhanced contents. TMFS Schools foster future digital skills by embracing digital technology in its classroom activities where leadership, design thinking and cognitive abilities were emphasised to prepare the students for future employment. SMK Gunung Semanggol (SMKGS) in Perak, with more than 90% of its students from B40 families, was selected as the first TMFS School, aligned with YTM’s aspiration to assist B40 students in rural areas. To further facilitate the initiative, YTM is establishing TMFS Digital Hub at TMFS Schools where the schools will be equipped with a PocketLab, robotics set, 3D printer, smart TV, desktop, and digital learning content to gain more interest from its students as well as the neighbouring schools. "SMK Gunung Semanggol was identified based on its active involvement in various STEM initiatives, including previous TMFS programmes. The school also has passionate and dedicated teachers, where they adopt integrated and innovative approach for more in-depth understanding of the modules among the students. With such exposure and capabilities, we are confident that SMK Gunung Semanggol is able to play the role as a hub to spread the digital technology knowledge to more students and teachers including at the five (5) neighbouring schools, and approximately over 20 secondary schools in the Kerian district," said Izlyn Ramli, Director of YTM, during the launching ceremony of TMFS School in November 2022. Throughout this three-year programme, YTM, together with its strategic partner, Creative Minds, will work with Multimedia University (MMU), Yayasan Universiti Multimedia (YUM), TM Perak, and other YTM's partners to design and deliver engaging programmes providing the tools and support for students in rural schools to flourish. "We are also happy to see that SMK Gunung Semanggol promotes the development of other skills, such as urban farming and entrepreneurship, to empower the local communities sustainably. So as we continue to identify more potential schools in more states of Malaysia, we hope this programme will unearth more talented students towards building a competitive and sustainable community in the future," she added. Salmah Iman, the Principal of SMK Gunung Semanggol, expressed her enthusiasm, "We feel honoured and privileged to be chosen as the first TMFS School in the Northern Zone and Malaysia. We are excited and look forward to share the positive impact of this programme with the nearby schools. As we are committed to ensuring that this programme achieves its goals, we are also confident that YTM's support and assistance will help these students be prepared for future employment and enhance their standard of living." At the event, Bakri Arsad, Chief Assistant Director of Mathematics and Science, Learning Sector, Perak State Education Department, said, "We welcome such initiatives through collaboration with the private sector, especially for rural schools that need exposure to digital technology. These programmes will inspire students to explore their potential beyond academics and increase the number of students choosing STEM-related fields." During the launch, guests had the opportunity to visit the Pusat Sumber Sekolah Pendeta Za'aba and experience content and materials created by the students based on specific themes including unique handicrafts and martial arts performances. Guests toured the school's urban farm, where they sampled delicious cuisine prepared by students from the special education class using produce from the farm. SMK Gunung Semanggol provided a wonderful ambience of positive vibes that attract students' engagement and boosted their creativity. To date, STEM-related programmes by YTM, including TMFS, have benefited over 15,000 students and teachers from over 500 schools across the country. With the support and assistance of various interested partners, we hope this initiative will spark students' interest in pursuing their tertiary studies in technology and digital fields and equip the young generation with future-proof skills relevant to the future workforce.
