TM Committed to Inculcate Culture of Uncompromising Integrity to Further Strengthen Corporate Governance and Business Ethics
Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) continues its strong commitment towards upholding integrity when it becomes a role model for Government-Linked Company (GLC) to establish its Group Integrity and Governance (GIG) in line with the Strategic Plan of Integrity and Governance Unit (IGU) 2019 - 2021 by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The establishment of the Group was officially announced by Latheefa Koya, Chief Commissioner, MACC and Tuan Haji Rosli Man, Chairman, TM in an event held at TM's headquarters, Menara TM. The event was witnessed by Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed, Director General, National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption (GIACC). Chief Executive Officers and Certified Integrity Officers (CEIOs) of GLCs, MACC officers as well as TM's Union leaders were also present at the event.
Speaking at the event, Tuan Haji Rosli said, "Good corporate governance continues to be our top priority in doing business. So, the GIG team was set up as one of our initiatives to instill the culture of Uncompromising Integrity (Integriti Tanpa Kompromi) in TM, in line with the objectives of National Anti-Corruption Plan towards further strengthening corporate governance and business ethics. It is testament to the Board of Directors and senior management's undivided commitment in upholding a high level of ethics and good corporate governance in every dealing with its stakeholders."
"The GIG team will be focusing on handling internal investigations comprehensively, managing complaints and information provided by whistleblowers thoroughly as well as conducting programmes to increase awareness on ethics and integrity. To ensure independence and full transparency, the GIG team reports directly to TM's Board of Directors," he added.
The GIG is headed by an MACC officer who is seconded to TM and assumed the role of Chief Integrity and Governance Officer (CIGO) effective 1 July 2019. The Group was set up following the Prime Minister's Directive (No. 1 of 2018), dated October 2018. It sets out that an Integrity and Governance Unit (IGU) will be established in all GLCs in order to safeguard integrity and institutionalise good governance. In championing this cause, TM has not only established a unit, but has decided to go the extra mile by establishing a Group within the Company to show its undivided commitment towards integrity and good governance.
Besides the official announcement on the establishment of GIG, the event also saw the launch of the Strategic Plan of IGU 2019 – 2021 by MACC. The Strategic Plan, which comprises four (4) main components namely Infrastructure, Transparency, Initiatives and Reporting, is formulated to guide Government Interest Companies (GIC) in their plans for effective strategies in pursuing a corrupt free business environment, institutionalising ethical practices and good governance within the organisations.
TM has embarked on serious efforts to instill high level of integrity amongst Warga TM since 2002, which include the introduction of KRISTAL values namely Total Commitment to Customers, Respect & Care and Uncompromising Integrity; implementation of TM Code of Business Ethics (CBE) and TM Anti-Corruption Guidelines. TM also signed the Corporate Integrity Pledge (CIP) in 2012 and while in 2017, all Warga TM nationwide made a corruption-free pledge (Ikrar Bebas Rasuah – IBR). To exemplify its commitment and stance against accepting gifts from business partners, TM has implemented No Gifts Policy since 2013 among other various impactful and effective initiatives as to date.
TM has always been a staunch supporter of the Government's initiatives and aspiration towards combating corruption and other unethical activities.
