TM and Ministry of Education establish synergy to drive digital transformation in education
TM Becomes the Strategic Partner for Digital Education Transformation Initiative and Launches Special unifi Mobile Plan, Exclusively for Teachers
Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) today embarked on a journey to establish working synergies on Digital Education Transformation initiative, in line with the Government’s Transformasi Nasional 2050 (TN50) plan which is set to empower Malaysia’s education system through innovation and digitalisation.
This collaboration marks a steadfast effort via strategic partnership between TM and MOE to ensure effective delivery of the Digital Education Transformation programme. The collaboration will focus on four (4) main pillars namely 21st Century Teaching & Learning, Enterprise Architecture, Education Analytics and other Value Added services suitable for education.
The ceremony was graced by YB Dato’ Seri Mahdzir Khalid, Minister of Education Malaysia together with Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Sulaiman Mahbob, Chairman, TM, together with Datuk Dr. Amin Senin, Education Director General of MOE and Datuk Bazlan Osman, Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer, TM.
To commemorate this collaboration, TM also introduced a special unifi Mobile plan exclusively for teachers, called “JASA Pack”. The plan which is offered at only RM59 a month for unlimited data, calls and SMS.
Commenting on the collaboration, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Sulaiman Mahbob said, “As the key enabler for the national communications infrastructure, and the one and only capable of providing fully integrated telecommunications, ICT and digital services, TM is proud to play its role as the strategic partner in establishing the ecosystem for MOE digital transformation programme. We really look forward to work with MOE to accelerate the delivery of innovative digital services and solutions for the education sector towards building a knowledge-based workforce for the country.”

The collaboration will enable MOE to boost and accelerate its digital transformation journey as outlined in the national education blueprint 2013-2025 (Wave Two). This means students, teachers as well as MOE administrators can look forward to a seamless transformation of digital experience.
These digital experience include high speed broadband connectivity, interactive smartboard, smart devices, as well as the methodology of teaching and learning the 21st century way. The transformation will also digitise the students tracking and attendance system for the safety of the students, whereby all parents and teachers will have real-time visibility on the students’ attendance. The transformation will also enable parents to choose cashless payment options at school. Ultimately, all data and information from all these solutions will be integrated and combined into one single platform to provide Big Data analytics.

YTM and Istana Negara equips higher risk communities with disaster preparedness
Facilitates the development of localised Emergency Response Plans Over the years, Yayasan TM (YTM) has been actively involved in disaster emergency response efforts and lent its helping hand to affected communities in various ways. With many tragic losses of life and property due to natural disasters, it is imperative to help the public better understand the importance of preparedness, the risks involved and build capacities for pre-emptive and early action, including identifying vulnerabilities and potential impact on people and assets. Through its latest initiative, the YTM-Istana Negara Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Programme (CBDRRM), organised in collaboration with Istana Negara, the programme is aimed at empowering communities especially women and children as well as building community resilience during disasters with the necessary knowledge and skills in disaster preparedness - in alignment to the Government's aspiration to nurture a disaster preparedness culture among Malaysians. For the inaugural edition of the programme, YTM identified three (3) high risk areas in Kuantan, Maran and Bentong districts in Pahang. This is also a continuation from the support to the local communities post-flood early this year where YTM, together with Istana Negara provided basic necessities, workforce and monetary assistance to citizens in Karak, Ulu Tembeling and Kuantan districts. “This CBDRRM programme is both important and timely, in view of frequent heavy rain and storms of late. We hope that the local communities will fully utilise the skills and knowledge obtained from the initiative, to be better prepared for in the event of any flood incidents in their respective areas, minimising the impact and ultimately, saving lives,” said Izlyn Ramli, Director of YTM. “We were delighted to find that these modules were very helpful for them based on their feedback. Meanwhile, we remain on the ready to deploy response and humanitarian aid should the need arise,” she added. The first one was held in August 2022 for the community in Perumahan Awam Kos Rendah (PAKR) Sungai Pandan, Kuantan, which saw a total of 120 participants attending, while the second was held in Maran in September. With the support of the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) as well as the TM Reaching Out Volunteers (TMROVers), the programme was conducted by 12 humanitarian experts with vast disaster response experience, including risk and reduction management from Red A Humanitarian Global. The modules highlighted the importance of disaster preparedness, hands-on session to develop localised Emergency Response Plans, water safety and practical swimming, as well as simulation exercises. The participants were also briefed on mental health management and creating children-friendly spaces (CFS) as an added element. For any emergency response plan to work, active participation from the community becomes crucial. During the programme, the communities were also connected to their local government agencies such as the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (BOMBA), Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM), Jabatan Pengairan & Saliran (JPS) Negeri Pahang for better disaster response in the future. The third and final session was organised recently in Bentong in collaboration with Istana Negara and attended by 125 participants. Via the three (3) series of CBDRRM in Pahang, YTM have reached a total of 458 community members and local government agencies; inclusively, empowering 123 female participants and 167 children and teenagers. This initiative is aligned with our aspiration to build capacity in disaster preparedness among community members, especially women and children, who are considered first responders’ priority when a disaster occurs. YTM will continuously support the community for better disaster preparedness and response through community leadership and self-empowerment.
TM Announces Upcoming Change In MD / Group CEO
Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), is pleased to announce a change in its executive leadership effective 1 August 2023. The change sees Amar Huzaimi Md Deris as the new Managing Director / Group CEO of TM, succeeding Datuk Imri Mokhtar, who completes his 3-year term on 31 July 2023. Currently heading TM's domestic and global wholesale business, Amar is another example of TM's home-grown talent, after Datuk Imri. Beginning his career with TM after graduating in 1998, Amar’s roles have ranged from financial control, internal audit, corporate and regulatory affairs, Group CEO’s office, culminating in his current P&L position at TM Global. His strategic vision, combined with operational experience and grasp of global leading technologies, ideally positions him to steer TM's evolution from a Telco to a TechCo. His achievements have not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by his recognition as one of CPA Australia's 40 young business leaders (2012) and by Capacity Media's 'Power 100' list in wholesale carrier community (2019, 2023). These accolades further attest to his leadership capabilities and the promising future he holds at the helm of TM. Speaking about his upcoming role, Amar said, "Datuk Imri has set the right path for TM, with the strengthened foundation from the turnaround and pursuit of new growth areas – charting the shift from a Telco to a TechCo. I am proud to have been part of that journey; and now, I am enthusiastic to follow through and lead TM to the next level." Datuk Imri expressed his confidence in Amar’s appointment, saying, “Amar is an exceptional TM-grown leader with a proven ability to navigate the business and deliver results. I have full confidence that TM shall attain greater success under Amar’s leadership. TM receives national recognitions for its continous efforts in Energy Management
The Company walked away with four (4) recognitions at the recent National Energy Awards 2020, organised by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA). Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) was recently bestowed with multiple recognitions for its continuous commitment and best practices in energy management at the National Energy Awards 2020, organised by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources (KeTSA). As such, our facilities are supported by Energy Saving Initiatives (ESI), which describes how we can improve energy-efficiency at network and non-network buildings. We also adopt sustainable practices for emissions management that adhere to regulatory standards. We conduct regular monitoring of the air, noise and water of areas surrounding our operations. We strive to consistently comply with the environmental monitoring limits stipulated by the Department of Environment (DoE) thus ensuring that our business does not harm nearby environment and communities. We have been continuously improving on our emissions and consumption policies, objectives, targets and strategies. Additionally, we monitor and measure activities that contribute to our carbon footprint, including energy use and waste production, resulting in a 7.5% reduction in overall GHG emissions for 2019. We also recorded a 7.4% reduction in energy consumption," Badrul elaborated. The annual National Energy Awards (NEA) highlights the development of ideas and best practices in driving the country's sustainable energy sector. The award recognises the efforts of the public and private sectors in energy innovation that manifests positive impact to the nation and all Malaysians. It acknowledges the adopters of energy efficiency technology and renewable energy in driving towards Malaysia's sustainable development aspirations. It is also the Government's strategic move to promote innovation in local technology, research and development (R&D) as well as to create awareness on a broad level across the different facets of society, in line with the country's aspiration to spur energy sector as the new area for economic growth. Previously in 2019, the National Energy Awards also honoured TM for the first time as the winner for Category I: Energy Efficiency under sub-category of Energy Management (Small & Medium Building). The award recognised energy saving initiatives at Menara TM, Melaka which include upgrading of conventional lighting to LED, chillers optimisation, reuse of ablution water for watering plant and installation of motion sensor lighting, among others.
