As pioneers in the rollout of high speed broadband in the country, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Huawei Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd (Huawei) are once again collaborating for the betterment of broadband and digital economy for the nation. The companies recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for both parties to work hand-in-hand in multiple collaboration activities, leveraging on each other’s core expertise and capabilities to accelerate fibre broadband network reach, in line with the Government’s move to drive Malaysia’s digital economy.

The collaboration will leverage on the combined strengths and capabilities of both companies to further accelerate national broadband reach and leap-frog the adoption of a connected digital lifestyle and the Internet of Things (IOTs) amongst Malaysians. Via the strategic partnership, both TM and Huawei will play a more proactive developmental role in providing ready infrastructure and ecosystem to support the nation’s growth.

The MoU was signed by Datuk Bazlan Osman, Executive Director / Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer, TM and Foo Fang Yong, Vice President of Huawei Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Dato’ Sri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly, Managing Director / Group Chief Executive Officer, TM and Baker Zhou, Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd.

Commenting on the partnership, Dato’ Sri Mohammed Shazalli Ramly said, “We are indeed excited to be working hand in hand with a leading global name such as Huawei to accelerate the offering of digital services and solutions to the nation thus further support the Government’s aspirations of digital economy. As the trusted partner in key nation-building initiatives, TM ensures the safety and security of the nation's strategic and critical infrastructure, and in accelerating the broadband reach for all Malaysians. We believe that strategic collaborations such as this MoU is yet another testament of our role as the country’s key enabler for the national communications infrastructure.”

Meanwhile, Baker Zhou said: “Telekom Malaysia and Huawei have been working hand-in-hand for 15 years. In the past 15 years, we have worked together to connect more people than ever before. We are now at the crossroads of digital transformation. With today's MoU, we can share more, innovate better, and work more closely than ever before. Huawei will fully support TM’s vision of “Making Life and Business Easier”, and will work together with TM to building a better connected and intelligent Malaysia.”

The inking of the MoU marks the parties’ commitment to collaborate to deliver digital solutions for businesses and public sector, explore innovative solutions for network optimisation and implement initiatives that will capture TM customers’ share of moments.

The MoU also envisages other areas across TM Group of Companies including network and technology planning, exploration of innovative business model for unifi, transformation of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to enhance overall efficiency of TM’s IT and Business support platform, smart device cooperation, establishment of Multimedia University (MMU) Smart Campus model and knowledge sharing on innovative technology. According to the MoU, Huawei will share its extensive global best practices to help TM capitalise emerging opportunities quickly through big data aided network design and deployment, intelligent Smart Capex solution to respond fast to TM customer needs, and simplify business engagement between both organisations via inter-connecting IT processes.

Through this strategic partnership, TM aspires to pursue the innovation and commercialisation of technology which includes Internet of Things (IoTs), cloud technology and artificial intelligence towards delivering digital experience to more Malaysians nationwide. TM will also explore alternative wireless technology deployment to further expand high speed broadband reach across Malaysia; bridging the digital divide and meeting the Government’s objective of a truly connected society.

The MoU is subject to a definitive agreement to be signed between the parties in specific areas. Further announcements will be made in due course, as and when appropriate.

unifi is now available in Mukah!

TM continues to empower the digital transformation in sub-urban and undeveloped areas   Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) continues to strengthen its position as Malaysia’s Convergence Champion, bringing unlimited experiences, unmatched choices and unbeatable value to customers in Sarawak with its comprehensive suite of High Speed Broadband service offerings when the Company, through TM Sarawak recently expanded its unifi service to Mukah Division, in Mukah, Sarawak. A launching ceremony to celebrate the milestone was held at the Resident Office for Mukah Division and graced by Hajah Hamdiah Haji Bakir, the Resident of Mukah Division, together with Jafer Sadig Abdul Lathiff, State General Manager, TM Sarawak and Awang Abdul Khairulannuar, Business Head, TM Sibu. The expansion will also include Jalan Orang Kaya Setiaraja and Jalan Petanak which will receive the service by end of September 2018. Further expansion will cover other areas such as Jalan Medan Setiaraja, Jalan Tellian, Jalan Hj Latip, Jln Kampung Pinang, Jalan Mohammad Fauzi, Taman Pelita Jaya and Jalan Mukah/Oya while other locations will be fiberised by unifi in stages. “In line with the Broadband Improvement Plan, I’m also excited to share that our new unifi package, unifi Basic are now available for everyone at an affordable price of RM79 per month, bringing Malaysia in the group of other neighboring Asian countries (other than City State Countries) which offer fixed high speed broadband of 30Mbps at an affordable price,” Jaffer continued. New unifi Plans unifi is now available with simplified offerings in two (2) new plans to cater to the dynamic needs of all customers. The existing unifi Basic plan which offers the speed of 30Mbps (60GB quota) at RM79 per month is now open for all. Subscription to this plan will come with 17 free channels on playTV@unifi app which can be downloaded on Apple Store or Google Play. TM announces departure of its chairman and the appointment of his successor

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today announced the departure of Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr. Sulaiman Mahbob as Chairman of TM Board with effect on 30 November 2018 and the appointment of its new Chairman, Rosli Man effective 3 December 2018. On behalf of TM Group, the Board of Directors, expressed their highest gratitude to Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr. Sulaiman for his leadership, dedication and contribution to the Group during his tenure. “The entire Board, management and Warga TM would like to record our heartfelt appreciation to Tan Sri Dato' Seri Dr. Sulaiman, an exemplary role model in civil service and a well-respected economist; who has brought his vast experience in the fields of government, economics and corporate to benefit the TM Group for the last 3 years. In his time at TM, his focus on corporate governance, integrity, corporate responsibility and sustainability; and ultimately on the role of TM as a partner in nation-building, has left a lasting mark on all of us at TM. This also extends to his contribution in education as the Chairman of Multimedia University (MMU).” Commenting on the new Chairman's appointment, the Board said, "We are happy to welcome Rosli Man as the new Chairman of TM Board. With his experience and knowledge, we look forward to his guidance and leadership as the Company, under the helm of Imri Mokhtar, the recently appointed Acting Group Chief Executive Officer and the team continues on executing its Performance Improvement Programme (PIP) 2018 and beyond. On that note, we would also like to welcome Rosli Man as the new Chairman of TM Board," the Board concluded.   PROFILE OF ROSLI MAN   Rosli Man has more than 32 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, before he resigned as an Independent Non-Executive Director of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) in 2008. Since then, he has immersed himself in consultation works before returning to TM as its Non-Independent Non-Executive Chairman on 3 December 2018. He first joined the telecommunication industry in Jabatan Telekom Malaysia in 1976 as Assistant Controller where he gained wide exposure in telecommunication services including the task to implement the country’s first mobile telecommunication service, i.e. ATUR 450. He then moved to the private sector by joining the Fleet group as its Group Manager, Technical Services in 1985. From 1988 to 1996, he was instrumental in setting up the first privately owned telecommunications company in Malaysia, the then Celcom (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (Celcom), catering to the cellular telecommunication business. He left Celcom as its President in 1996 to join Prismanet Sdn Bhd as Managing Director and held the position until November 1998. In July 2000, he joined Natrindo Telpon Sellular (NTS), the GSM 1800 cellular operator in East Java, Indonesia as Chief Operating Officer. He left NTS in January 2002.

TM inculcates creativity and interest in science among students

Science made easier with TM Nano Maker Kit Learning process: Briefing session on the usage of Nano Maker Kit where students can connect the Kit to their smart devices via Bluetooth to collect experiment results data. Thrilled: Participating students conducting an experiment on force, acceleration and momentum of a car crash. In action: An outdoor experiment on water rocket launching takes the interest of the students as they measure the rocket acceleration using Nano Maker Kit. Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) under its Corporate Responsibility (CR) initiatives, recently collaborated with its partner, Creative Minds - a company specialised in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects – to conduct a programme called TM Nano Maker Kit, involving several schools around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. This innovation-oriented programme is an initiative by TM to inculcate interests in science and technology among the students. The programme also marked its continued commitment in promoting education exc ellence and empowering the learning of STEM in the classroom.  Commenting on the programme, Izad Ismail, Head of Corporate Responsibility & External Stakeholder Management, Group Brand and Communication, TM said, “This programme requires students to innovate and create activities related to science and technology. Students in all the 10 participating schools around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor were indeed very creative. They have the potential and capabilities to innovate but they need proper guidance to express the innovation. We hope that the training and learning process shared with them during this programme will encourage them to be even more creative and excel in Science and Technology subjects.” TM Nano Maker Kit programme provides a platform for the students to collect and analyse experimental data conducted in Physic and Mathematics. TM Nano Maker Kit also aimed to boost the students' abilities through hands-on activities which involve the usage of a technology known as ‘Data Logging’ to collect real-time data for the students to analyse. There are many parameters and types of data that can be tested using the TM Nano Maker Kit, including temperature, altitude, speed, weather, acceleration, pressure, light intensity and magnetic fields.  The TM Nano Maker Kit saw participation of more than 300 students from 10 schools around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. The schools involved, which served as the pilot group were SMK Dato’ Onn, SM Sains Banting, SMK Keramat Wangsa, SMK Batu Laut, SMK Bandar Tasik Selatan, SMK Bandar Seri Putra, SMK Bukit Kucing Tengah, SMK Saujana Impian, SMK Dengkil and MRSM Sungai Besar.
