The Company is ready to bring 5G to all Malaysians; Becomes the First Telco to Deploy Stand Alone (SA) network

As the national telecommunications infrastructure provider of Malaysia's Digital Nation aspirations, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) is embarking on delivering 5G infrastructure to the country by participating in the 5G Demonstration Project undertaken by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).​

The demonstration project is for TM to test the new 5G features, explore the 5G technology system and assess the best way to deploy 5G infrastructure nationwide. The Company plans to test the implementation of a converged 5G core network which allows co-existence of Non-Stand Alone (NSA) and Stand Alone (SA) network. SA is the future of the 5G network deployment and this demonstration is crucial to fast track 5G implementation in the country.​

Towards this end, TM through its enterprise and public sector business solutions arm, TM ONE, recently started its 5G demonstration in Subang Jaya, Selangor together with Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) to test its 5G solutions namely Smart Traffic Light, Smart Safety & Security and Smart Parking.

Besides that, TM is also expanding its 5G Demonstration Project in Pulau Langkawi, Kedah with the demonstration of more 5G use cases. The transmission of 5G service in Pulau Langkawi is going live today, where TM is deploying the first 5G SA network in the country.

Commenting on the milestone development, Dato' Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM said: "We are very excited to be part of this 5G Demonstration Project which demonstrates our capabilities to deploy 5G in Malaysia and to roll-out the first 5G SA network in the country. The deployment of our tested and proven 5G-enabled smart solutions for the showcase in Subang Jaya and Langkawi are testament of our commitment in accelerating the delivery of 5G services nationwide. This is in support of the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission's (MCMC) efforts in progressing humanity towards improving the quality of lives of the Rakyat. TM, via our innovative and comprehensive products and solutions will continue to lay the foundation for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) and enabling Internet of Things (IoT) – to serve a more digital society and lifestyle, digital businesses and industry verticals, as well as digital Government."

TM's aspiration is to deliver efficient and cost effective 5G infrastructure via infrastructure sharing approach, through the access regulations implemented by MCMC. This is by leveraging on its extensive fibre networks, including the submarine cables, telecommunications towers, and Cloud computing as well as ready Data Centres to support the 5G era in Malaysia. In terms of devices and use cases, its wholly-owned subsidiary, TM Research & Development Sdn Bhd (TM R&D), is also developing and experimenting 5G related equipment to get ready for the upcoming 5G. 

In addition, the Company plans to test and demonstrate the Dynamic Spectrum Sharing feature where it can dynamically share the same spectrum to support different mobile technologies, dynamically.​

TM AND GOVT INTRODUCE NEXT-GEN 999 EMERGENCY SYSTEM

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 November 2025 – Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Communications, has made available the Next Generation Emergency Response Services 999 (NG MERS 999), representing a significant enhancement to the nation’s emergency communications infrastructure. This milestone follows the 2024 agreement between both parties, reinforcing their commitment to deliver smarter, faster and more inclusive emergency services across the country. A key highlight is the enhanced SaveME 999 mobile application, which now provides Malaysians, including people with special needs and assistance, with direct access to 999 operators through video, text, and multimedia-based distress alerts. This places Malaysia among the first in the world to operationalise nationwide inclusive digital emergency access at large scale. Members of the public may continue to call 999 as usual. The SaveME 999 app serves as an additional option, particularly for those who require accessible features. The NG MERS 999 is a fully digital, integrated platform that replaces the legacy MERS 999 system which is also developed and operated by TM. The upgraded system enhances operational efficiency, optimises resource deployment, and significantly improves response times across more than 800 locations nationwide. These capabilities mirror, and in several areas exceed, implementations seen in advanced emergency systems internationally.   Advanced Technology and Inclusivity Developed and operated by TM, the NG MERS 999 integrates AI-powered analytics, geolocation services, and secure sovereign cloud hosting to streamline emergency call management and enable real-time decision-making. Two key applications – SaveME 999 (for the public to send multimedia alerts with GPS data) and the Responder App (for real-time tracking and coordination among emergency agencies) – ensure faster response and improved outcomes in life-critical situations. Aligned with the NG112 framework and built to stringent ISO-certified benchmarks, NG MERS 999 reinforces Malaysia’s public safety infrastructure and readiness for the digital future. With NG MERS 999, every emergency call is now met with greater speed, accuracy, and care — reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a leader in digital public safety innovation.

TM restores 85% of flood-impacted services and ramps up outreach to affected customers, communities and employees

​Following up from the statement issued by Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) on December 19, 2021, we have since accelerated our focus on supporting the escalating needs of our customers, communities and employees impacted by the tragic event of the floods. As of today, 85% or 84,274 of our affected customers are now back online thanks to the exhaustive efforts made by TM’s engineering and support teams, enabling the successful restoration of our core services. We will continue this rigorous service restoration exercise to ensure the remainder of our customers are able to be connected soonest. For our affected customers, we have allocated:     RM13 million to replace for free, damaged Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) and network components;     A waiver of two (2) weeks subscription from customer bill estimated at RM5 million; and     Credit term extension to 60 days to further ease the financial burden of customers. In the affected regions, TM has restored a majority of its impacted primary network sites. The flood had impacted more than 15 network sites and hill stations across four (4) states, due to power outages and in some areas, high water levels and severe road conditions, preventing our network team from accessing these locations. As part of the pledges made by members of the GLC/GLIC Disaster Response Network (GDRN) currently at RM58.4 million, the TM Board has allocated RM2 million in aid of the recovery, rebuilding and flood relief efforts. TM, via Yayasan TM (YTM) is also joint chair and secretariat for GDRN. Together with YTM, partner NGOs and the Malaysian Armed and rescue Forces, we have also distributed over 3,500 care packs consisting of hot meals, dry rations and hygiene items, and COVID-19 self-test kits provided by Pharmaniaga to the flood-stricken areas in Klang Valley and Hulu Langat. Our committed team of over 260 staff volunteers (TM Reaching Out Volunteers – TM ROVers) are currently assisting communities with the daunting task of cleaning up their homes, including 830 of our own employees whose premises have been damaged. TM will also ensure compensation via financial aid to the affected staffs, and the provision of temporary shelter at the MMU campus. Imri Mokhtar, Group Chief Executive Officer of TM said, “The immense challenges faced by fellow Malaysians during this unfortunate situation calls for corporations and businesses to come together to respond swiftly to alleviate the struggles of many, leveraging on our resources and means where possible.” “As co-lead of the GDRN, TM is grateful to serve alongside its members in addressing the needs of those trying to rebuild their lives in the aftermath. The worse may not be over, and TM is mindful of our role to support our customers, communities and employees as we recover as a nation.” “We appreciate the patience shown by all as we work hard to get our networks back up and running and ensure uninterrupted services in face of power shutdown and damaged equipment in some of our locations,” he added. TM Congratulates National Sepak Takraw Team on Outstanding Performance at ASTAF Sepaktakraw Asian Cup 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 May 2025 – Telekom Malaysia Berhad (“TM” or “the Group”), the Official Partner of the National Sepak Takraw Team, congratulates the team for their outstanding performance at the ASTAF Sepaktakraw Asian Cup 2025, held at the Titiwangsa Indoor Stadium, Kuala Lumpur. TM is proud to have supported the national team as they secured two out of four championship titles — in the Regu and Quadrant events.
