The future of 5G begins with TM! #bersamasama5G
The Company is ready to bring 5G to all Malaysians; Becomes the First Telco to Deploy Stand Alone (SA) network
As the national telecommunications infrastructure provider of Malaysia's Digital Nation aspirations, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) is embarking on delivering 5G infrastructure to the country by participating in the 5G Demonstration Project undertaken by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
The demonstration project is for TM to test the new 5G features, explore the 5G technology system and assess the best way to deploy 5G infrastructure nationwide. The Company plans to test the implementation of a converged 5G core network which allows co-existence of Non-Stand Alone (NSA) and Stand Alone (SA) network. SA is the future of the 5G network deployment and this demonstration is crucial to fast track 5G implementation in the country.
Towards this end, TM through its enterprise and public sector business solutions arm, TM ONE, recently started its 5G demonstration in Subang Jaya, Selangor together with Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) to test its 5G solutions namely Smart Traffic Light, Smart Safety & Security and Smart Parking.
Besides that, TM is also expanding its 5G Demonstration Project in Pulau Langkawi, Kedah with the demonstration of more 5G use cases. The transmission of 5G service in Pulau Langkawi is going live today, where TM is deploying the first 5G SA network in the country.
Commenting on the milestone development, Dato' Noor Kamarul Anuar Nuruddin, Group Chief Executive Officer, TM said: "We are very excited to be part of this 5G Demonstration Project which demonstrates our capabilities to deploy 5G in Malaysia and to roll-out the first 5G SA network in the country. The deployment of our tested and proven 5G-enabled smart solutions for the showcase in Subang Jaya and Langkawi are testament of our commitment in accelerating the delivery of 5G services nationwide. This is in support of the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission's (MCMC) efforts in progressing humanity towards improving the quality of lives of the Rakyat. TM, via our innovative and comprehensive products and solutions will continue to lay the foundation for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) and enabling Internet of Things (IoT) – to serve a more digital society and lifestyle, digital businesses and industry verticals, as well as digital Government."
TM's aspiration is to deliver efficient and cost effective 5G infrastructure via infrastructure sharing approach, through the access regulations implemented by MCMC. This is by leveraging on its extensive fibre networks, including the submarine cables, telecommunications towers, and Cloud computing as well as ready Data Centres to support the 5G era in Malaysia. In terms of devices and use cases, its wholly-owned subsidiary, TM Research & Development Sdn Bhd (TM R&D), is also developing and experimenting 5G related equipment to get ready for the upcoming 5G.
In addition, the Company plans to test and demonstrate the Dynamic Spectrum Sharing feature where it can dynamically share the same spectrum to support different mobile technologies, dynamically.
"This approach is expected to minimise duplication of network which will lead to cost reduction, translating the savings to lower prices for consumers/customers, be more environmentally friendly and allow the savings to be channeled for better innovation and improved customer services. We are open and ready to work together with other operators during this demonstration project. True to our position as the national telecommunications infrastructure provider of Malaysia's Digital Nation aspirations, we have established the communications backbone of Malaysia with the widest connectivity and convergence network," added Dato' Noor Kamarul.

TM's decision to exit menara KL concession
Telekom Malaysia Berhad ("TM" or "the Group") wishes to clarify that Menara KL ("MKL" or "Tower") is owned by the Government while the operations and maintenance of the tower is granted under a concession. TM via its wholly owned subsidiary, Menara Kuala Lumpur Sdn. Bhd. (MKLSB) had undertaken the concession since 1996. As part of its business transformation programme, TM is focusing its efforts and resources on strengthening its core business of telecommunications and technology. After due consideration on the change in the business nature of MKL, from telecommunications services to tourism and hospitality, TM has decided in October 2021 not to renew the MKL concession and informed the Government accordingly. Subsequently in 2022, the selection process of the new Concessionaire was then taken up by the Government upon which TM was informed on the appointed company to take over the shares of MKLSB and the MKL concession. MKLSB shall continue to operate the concession and ensure the continuity of MKL operations for the Malaysian public, including international visitors. Employees will remain employed with MKLSB under the new Concessionaire for a minimum period of 3 years. This is to ensure their welfare is protected in this transition. In TM’s 3Q 2022 financial announcement to Bursa Malaysia, a reference was made in the subsequent changes to shareholding in MKLSB. TM practices good governance and transparency in our business undertakings to preserve the interest of our customers and stakeholders. TM will provide our full cooperation and disclosures as required by the authorities. MDEC and TM work together to deliver greater reach and impact to Malaysians in the digital economy
Both parties are collaborating on four (4) key areas of Digitally Empowered Businesses; Rural Digital Economy; Digitally Skilled Malaysians; and Digital Advocacy and Community Engagement. Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) and Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) today announced a collaboration in the joint effort to further strengthen the digital readiness of Malaysia, towards realising its Digital Nation aspirations. The collaboration encompasses four (4) key areas namely, to digitally empower Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs); to bolster rural digital economy; to empower Malaysians with digital skills; and to leverage on each other's strengths in running digital advocacy and community engagement programmes. More significantly, it brings the two national organisations, MDEC and TM, together moving in tandem towards delivering greater digital reach and economic impact for the shared prosperity of all Malaysians. Under the MoU, TM and MDEC will work together in matching, introducing and connecting TM with MDEC's MSME ecosystem and established partners such as Perkhidmatan eDagang Setempat (PeDAS) programme, Pusat Internet Desa (PID) and Digital Xceleration (DX), as well as TM's MSME customers to offer products and solutions in TM's identified technology pillars towards further empowering the SME fraternity. This will pave the way towards producing business and technology savvy entrepreneurs, MSMEs who will then drive economic growth. Towards empowering the rural digital economy, both organisations will explore the initiatives to further expand connectivity infrastructure that in turn, can help enable mentoring and coaching to communities on how to increase the utilisation of emerging technology to improve business operations. Both parties will also look into organising training and workshops to enhance the digital skills and competencies of identified communities as well as TM employees, while at the same time building competent graduates to increase their employability. This includes promoting the awareness on 4th Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) related skills to teachers, students and youth to equip them for the digital era. Commenting on the collaboration, Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd Bakke Salleh, Chairman of TM said: "We are excited and thrilled to join hands with MDEC in this milestone effort. With this MoU in place, MDEC and TM will leverage on each other's strengths and complement areas where each entity requires further support towards a higher purpose of realising a Digital Malaysia and the benefits that it will give to more Malaysians; ensuring that no one will be left behind in this digital era and IR4.0.
A Golden Tribute for SEA Games Sepak Takraw Champions
KUALA LUMPUR, 11 February 2026 – The Persekutuan Sepaktakraw Malaysia (PSM), together with its Official Partner Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), recently honoured the National Sepak Takraw Squad following their historic performance at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand, at an appreciation ceremony held at World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL). The occasion was marked by the presentation of an exclusive, one-of-a-kind 999.9 commemorative gold coin by TM to each SEA Games gold medallist, symbolising TM’s pride in having supported the national squad’s journey to the top of the podium.The national squad delivered a proud milestone for Malaysian sport, securing two gold medals and three bronze medals, including a long-awaited victory in the Men’s Team Regu event - reclaiming the gold after 34 years. This reflects years of commitment, discipline and perseverance within the team, backed by support from TM as the Official Partner of the national squad.The appreciation ceremony brought together players, coaches, and officials to acknowledge not only the medals won, but the collective journey behind the success. In addition to the commemorative gold coins presented to gold medallists, TM also presented TM-PSM limited-edition jackets to the wider squad, coaches and PSM officials.The PSM President, Dato’ Mohd Sumali Reduan said the SEA Games success marked a renewed confidence and chapter for the sport. “Ending a 34-year wait for gold is deeply meaningful for the sport and for the country, and is the result of years of hard work, sacrifice and belief by our athletes and coaches. We are grateful for the strong partnership with TM, whose continued support has played an important role in strengthening the squad’s preparation and confidence. TM also supports sepak takraw talent development through programmes such as the National Sepak Takraw Development Programme (NSTDP) and Kursus Latihan Asas Sukan (KLAS). Through this partnership, PSM and TM share a commitment to strengthening Malaysia’s sporting ecosystem, nurturing national talent and ensuring grassroots sports like sepak takraw continue to empower unity, pride and aspiration for generations to come.
