KUALA LUMPUR, 21 August 2025 – Telekom Malaysia Berhad (“TM” or “the Group”), through its foundation arm, Yayasan TM (YTM), has strengthened its commitment to nation building by adopting 35 schools under the Government’s Sekolah Angkat Malaysia MADANI initiative. Spanning across the country, particularly in remote and underserved areas, the initiative is driven by the Group’s greater purpose to empower future talents and build a more inclusive future through education and technology.
At the heart of this initiative is TM Future Skills (TMFS) programme, designed to enhance digital skills among students from B40 or low-income families by integrating digital technologies into their learning experiences. Under the programme, selected “nucleus” schools will be allocated with a digital hub aiming to spark students’ interest in digital exploration and STEM subjects.
These hubs are equipped with resources such as PocketLab, robotics kits, 3D printers, drones, tablets and digital learning content. The 2025 TMFS curriculum has been further enhanced to include artificial intelligence (AI) and coding, aligned with the demands of Industry 4.0 and Malaysia’s future digital talents aspirations.
TM Group Chief Executive Officer, Amar Huzaimi Md Deris said, “These schools will not only serve their own students but will also extend support and knowledge-sharing to neighbouring satellite schools. This strategic approach enables us to scale the impact of our efforts and reach far beyond the adopted schools themselves, with an estimated 65,000 students nationwide set to benefit from this initiative.
“Since we introduced the TMFS programme in 2023, we have established three “nucleus” schools and positively impacted over 10,000 students and 1,000 teachers. It is our way of ensuring that no one is left behind in Malaysia’s journey towards becoming a digital nation,” said Amar.
Meanwhile, outstanding Form 4 and Form 5 students from these schools are also eligible for TM’s Young Leaders Scholarship, which serves as a platform to identify candidates for YTM’s Future Leaders Scholarship, offering full financial aid for tertiary studies.

On 10 May 2023, TM filed a Bursa Announcement to notify that the longstop date to fulfil all conditions precedent in the Share Subscription Agreement (SSA) for the subscription of a 20% equity stake in Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) had lapsed. Consequently, TM issued a termination notice to DNB, effective immediately. Nonetheless, TM looks forward to the next process and discussion with the Government and the industry on 5G participation across Phase 1 (towards 80% service coverage by DNB) and Phase 2 (shift to two networks), as announced by the Government on 3 May 2023. TM is committed to continue playing an active role in the 5G implementation, leveraging its nationwide fibre infrastructure, extensive digital platforms (data centre, edge nodes) and rollout experience. In the meantime, TM customers of Unifi Mobile and TM One will continue to enjoy 5G services and solutions, as the 5G wholesale Access Agreement remains in place. TM R&D wins prestigious MSC Malaysia APICTA 2018 for the innovation of Smart Safety Helmet
Places TM R&D as the Champion of Research & Development in 2018 TM Research & Development (TM R&D), the research arm and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) recently won the Cross Category: Research & Development for its innovative Smart Safety Helmet during the 19th MSC Malaysia Asia Pacific ICT Awards (MSC Malaysia APICTA) 2018 organised by the National ICT Association of Malaysia (PIKOM). Winning this prestigious award places TM R&D as the champion of Research & Development in 2018. In addition, TM R&D has been selected to represent Malaysia in the Cross Category: Research & Development at the International APICTA Awards 2018 in Guangzhou, China. Present to accept the award was Dr. Sharlene Thiagarajah, Chief Executive Officer of TM R&D. Developed by TM R&D, Smart Safety Helmet is a data driven smart industrial or safety helmet, an Internet of Things (IoT) solution that provides live, wireless monitoring and array of sensors including accident impact and geolocation which can be used to perform various analysis towards creating a safer worksite. It sends telemetry to the cloud and processes the data for the benefit of the employer as well as the staff. It has all the safety helmet features, location tracking services, attendance, violation detection and a video camera for remote coaching and emergency observation of the workforce. This Smart Safety Helmet innovation is the first Smart Safety Helmet in Malaysia and it is now ready to be deployed for industry players across various sectors such as Oil & Gas, Construction, Chemical & Manufacturing Industry and many more.
