DNB, TM and ZTE Collaborate On World's First and Fastest 28Gbps 5G mmWave on Standalone 5G Core
CYBERJAYA, 17 October 2023 – Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), TM and ZTE Corporation (ZTE) have formed a strategic alliance to unveil the world’s fastest 5G live trial which will deliver remarkable speeds up to 28Gbps. This revolutionary technology will reshape Malaysia’s digital landscape and set a new global standard in wireless communication.
An expansion of DNB’s commitment to drive 5G capabilities for the country, the partnership will leverage TM’s established network infrastructure and digital expertise, as well as ZTE’s state-of-the-art mmWave active antenna unit and cutting-edge chipset technology to deliver Malaysia's first standalone 5G core, complemented by an adaptable next generation transport network.
This milestone solidifies Malaysia’s position as a frontrunner in mmWave technology, elevating industry digitalisation and consumer experiences to unprecedented levels. Through this new innovation, the strategic partnership aims to propel productivity and operational efficiency, improving customer satisfaction and generating higher demand across all sectors. It will also enhance rapid Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) connections to deliver high-quality services, video streaming, lag-free online gaming, and immersive virtual and augmented reality applications.
Gracing the launch of this collaboration at TM’s Multimedia University, YB Teo Nie Ching, Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital, said, “This groundbreaking partnership reaffirms Malaysia’s commitment to advancing technology, propelling us into a new era of connectivity. unifi TV grows premium content offerings with new MangoTV and SIAR
UNIFI TV has expanded its offerings to include MangoTV, one of Mainland China’s leading online video platforms, and SIAR, a local channel that also has on-demand streaming app features for high-quality classic Malay films. Adding to its premium channels and existing streaming apps including Disney+ Hotstar, beIN SPORTS CONNECT, WeTV and Lionsgate Play, the new offerings will bring something for everyone within a single subscription, which can all be streamed over a single unifi Plus Box. These additions also strengthen unifi’s value proposition of having the largest selection of streaming apps –18 app partners in total by November 2022. “MangoTV and SIAR are quality additions to unifi TV’s international and local offerings. Showcasing 12 titles scheduled thematically every month, the channel takes audiences from ages 25 and above back to the nostalgia of yesteryear. Ali Agung, Chief Executive Officer of SIAR said, “With the presence of SIAR on unifi TV, local classic films will be given a new lease on life in line with current technological developments. SIAR is a digital film archive that brings together hundreds of classic Malay films from the 1970s to the 2000s that audiences can enjoy legally. TM's addresses data breach of Unifi mobile customers contact information
Telekom Malaysia (“TM” or “the Group”) has been made aware of a data breach (specific to contact information only) on 28 December involving a limited amount of Unifi Mobile customers’ information. After investigations, TM has found 250,248 Unifi Mobile customers to be affected in this data breach, constituting both individual customers as well as SMEs. The type of data that was breached involved customer names, phone numbers and emails. No other information was breached. TM confirms that the breach has been contained and have taken steps to minimise the potential impact to these 250,248 customers. The specific customers affected have been notified. Customers who have not received any notification are not impacted. TM has also reported this matter to the relevant authorities (National Cyber Coordination & Command Centre (NC4); Department of Privacy & Data Protection (JPDP); and the Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission (MCMC)). While additional security measures have been put in place to isolate the risk and protect our customers, we wish to inform that our customers did not experience any service disruptions in this incident. TM is closely monitoring the situation and is conducting additional assessments. We advise customers to take extra precautions when receiving communications from unknown parties, as well as to secure their online information at all times. The privacy and security of TM’s customers remain our highest priority and we take such matters seriously. We will continue to strengthen and ensure our data security framework, policies, systems and processes are continuously benchmarked against Bank Negara Malaysia's Risk Management in Technology (RMiT) standard and ISO27001, as well as other global standards to prevent such occurrences.
