ACES Awards 2022 recognises TM R&D as the innovative tech company of the year
In recognition of its transformative approach to software and technology that can lead to the creation of new approaches and prospects
Telekom Research & Development Sdn Bhd (TM R&D), the innovation arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM), recently won the Innovative Tech Companies of the Year Award at the Asia Corporate Excellence and Sustainability Awards (ACES) 2022, organised by MORS Group. The award was conferred to TM R&D in recognition of its transformative approach to software and technology, demonstrating that its tech innovations can lead to the creation of new approaches and prospects.
Dr Sharlene Thiagarajah, Chief Executive Officer, TM R&D accepted the award from Shanggari B., Chief Executive Officer of MORS Group and Luis Nieto, one of the juries for the ACES Awards 2022.
“This is a proud moment for the TM R&D team. Winning this award illustrates that we are on the right track. The transformative approach in our work will help propel Malaysia to be a nation of producers, instead of consumers. Yayasan TM launches art exhibition featuring works of gifted artists in conjuction with World Autism Awareness Day at Muzium Telekom
In conjunction with World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD) this year, Yayasan TM (YTM), the foundation arm of Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) in collaboration with Nak Seni and We&I presented the second edition of Seni Ekspresi Autisma (SESAMA) exhibition at Muzium Telekom taking place from 2nd until 30th of April 2022, showcasing the creative talents in visual arts as well as performing arts of gifted autistic artists. This exhibition is held to help nurture a more autism-friendly world through the arts; demonstrating a genuine expression of love, compassion and empathy for children and individuals on the spectrum, as they face their everyday challenges. SESAMA was officially launched on 2nd of April, last Saturday by the Honourable Senator Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi, President of OKU Sentral together with Izlyn Ramli, Director of YTM. Speaking at the launch event, Senator Datuk Ras Adiba said, “These children and individuals on the spectrum need our love and support. We need to have greater understanding and compassion towards them or else, we would have done them a great injustice. It isn't easy to look after persons with disabilities, but it's a beautiful and challenging journey, hence the reason we are here today, showcasing their incredible talents via an art exhibition, to empower them.” Meanwhile, YTM’s Izlyn said, “No one should ever be left behind, especially in the times we live in, where we’re enabled by so many wonderful life-changing technologies. YTM is delighted to celebrate WAAD and these amazing artistic talents who have come together to showcase their creative artwork. “Through the exhibition, we hope that audiences will look beyond their preconditions and see them for who they really are – beautiful souls and artists in their own right, deserving equal opportunities, standing shoulder to shoulder with their peers.” The exhibition launch event included the unveiling of “Rhythm Interactive Special Enabler” (RISE); an instructional book on the practical use of percussion for therapeutic benefits. This book, authored by Dr. Tan Swee Chuan and Edwin Nathaniel, is dedicated towards developing the musical talent of gifted children, providing insights into teaching students with different types and varying levels of learning challenges. The book launch was supported by Musicians for Musicians (MFM). Apart from the exhibition, YTM is also introducing its “Ramadan Buffet at Muzium Telekom” by Nomad Market, offering many local and international varieties to delight any food lover. The Ramadan Buffet is set to begin daily from 11th of April 2022 every day and on weekends; complete with a Ramadan Nite Bazaar with stalls selling goodies from local artists and entrepreneurs! YTM and its partners invite all to come and experience the free-admission SESAMA exhibition, from 2nd – 30th April 2022 (12.00PM – 6.00PM, Tuesday to Sunday) showcasing the journey of five gifted artists. TM’s response to the national crisis and assurance to customers, communities and businesses affected
As a result of the extreme and continuous heavy rainfall since Friday (17 December 2021), some telecommunication services provided by Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) have been impacted. A number of telecommunication equipment particularly in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang were damaged resulting in service disruption in several areas. At the time of reporting, TM’s National Crisis Command Centre is up and running, and we are closely monitoring our network sites. The flash floods and landslides have caused several of our nodes in the three (3) states to be inaccessible due to high water and unsafe conditions. In the meantime, we have had to shut down power supply and network equipment in some areas as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of those in the vicinity and minimise any potential risks. We have mobilised our front-liners and as conditions permit, we are actively pursuing network restoration in the flood-stricken zones to minimise any service interruption, ensuring customers remain connected. Our immediate concern is of 50,000 of our valued customers on unifi, streamyx, fixed line and unifi mobile who are affected, and we are working hard to ensure communication services are being safely re-established. Concurrently, the GLC/GLIC Disaster Recovery Network (GDRN) has been activated to provide welfare aid and support to those affected by this disaster. As a start, a total of RM50 million has been allocated for relief initiatives comprising of a matching grant of RM25 million by the Government, while the GLCs/GLICs will jointly contribute another RM25 million. As part of GDRN, which TM co-leads as the Secretariat together with Yayasan Hasanah from Khazanah Nasional Berhad, we are collaborating with the National Security Council (NSC) through NADMA (“Agensi Pengurusan Bencana Negara”) and other agencies to assist in furthering other disaster relief assistance. Together with the members of GDRN, we will mobilise rescue and aid efforts to ensure that basic necessities and healthcare can be provided to those in need. The 56th Royal Signals Telekom Army Reserve Regiment (56 Rejimen Semboyan Pakar Telekom Askar Wataniah) which comprises of volunteers from TM has been deployed on the ground to provide assistance and emergency services involving internet and telephone lines nationwide. “Though the situation remains uncertain, I am grateful for the quick action especially on the part of the TM engineering and customer care team for keeping our customers updated and working towards restoring the much-needed connectivity services. As we brace ourselves in anticipation of worsening conditions, we remain hopeful that Malaysians in need will receive the help they require. Our front-liners will be on the ground around the clock to restore services and bring the impacted States back on its feet,” said Imri Mokhtar, Group Chief Executive Officer of TM.
TM collaborates with 14 financial institutions to establish Vendor Financing Programme
PERINTIS Launched to Empower Local SME Vendors; Boost Growth of Businesses Towards Ensuring Sustainability PERINTIS to provide comprehensive and flexible financing facility as well as consultation for TM local SME vendors TM committed to strengthen its vendor ecosystem and accelerate vendor transformation through continuous upskilling and development programmes TM continues to support and develop local entrepreneurs especially in the new and emerging economy supporting Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0) towards ensuring their sustainability and growth As part of its nation building effort towards ensuring the sustainability of local vendors, Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) today announced its collaboration with selected financial institutions to embark on a TM Vendor Financing Programme called "PERINTIS". The programme will see the involvement of 14 financial institutions providing financing facilities and consultations for TM local SME vendors. The institutions are Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, Maybank Islamic Berhad, CIMB Bank Berhad, Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad, RHB Islamic Bank Berhad, United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Bhd, HSBC Bank Malaysia Berhad, Small Medium Enterprise Development Bank Malaysia Berhad, Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Berhad, Perbadanan Usahawan Nasional Berhad, PMB Tijari Berhad, Bay Group Holdings Sdn Bhd, Commerze Capital Sdn Bhd and El-Nuwr Capital Sdn Bhd. To signify the collaboration for the PERINTIS programme, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between TM and all the 14 institutions. Imri Mokhtar, Group Chief Executive Officer of TM signed the MoU on behalf of TM while the participating financial institutions were represented by their respective heads. The signing ceremony was witnessed by YB Dato' Sri Dr. Hj. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, accompanied by Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd Bakke Salleh, Chairman of TM. Also present at the event were Dato' Sri Haji Mohammad Mentek, Secretary General of the Ministry of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives and his Deputy, Datuk Haji Zamri Salleh, Deputy Secretary General of Entrepreneur Development. Commenting on the collaboration, Tan Sri Dato' Seri Mohd Bakke said: "TM is committed to continuously strengthen our vendor ecosystem through upskilling and development programmes. The programmes are aimed at boosting the growth of the vendors towards ensuring their sustainability, while at the same time upholding integrity in all activities undertaken. This PERINTIS programme was initiated to provide TM's local SME vendors with flexible financial support and convenience towards enhancing their capabilities and viability. It is also in line with the Government's efforts to promote vendors' business viability and to create employment opportunities in the country." "Our vendors are our strategic business partners and they play a pivotal role in our business operations. With their undivided support, TM is on the right path to deliver more innovative digital products and solutions to all our customers; preparing them with the right foundation for Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0)," he added. PERINTIS: Providing comprehensive and flexible financing facilities towards building the capacity and capability of its vendors The PERINTIS programme will provide TM vendors with added convenience through various financing facilities and financial advisory. Under this programme, TM vendors will enjoy comprehensive financing packages across all levels and sizes of business including those with sub-contractors; with the value of up to RM10 million, depending on the number of contracts obtained from TM. The offering will start from the stage of preparation of equipment and requirements to obtain a contract from TM. The disbursement processes will also be expedited to ensure that the vendors are viable and are able to support the business. In addition, the programme offers accelerated loan approval, made possible through a cooperation between the financial institutions and a credit guarantor which acts as a guarantor based on the Risk Acceptance Criteria and Eligibility Criteria agreed with the participating financial institutions. Being at the frontier of each telecommunication technology evolution of the nation, TM remains steadfast to support and develop local entrepreneurs, particularly Bumiputera vendors to accelerate the Digital Malaysia's aspirations.
